Job Responsibilities
* Communication & Front‑of‑House: Welcome all visitors to the ICU in a friendly, professional and empathetic manner. Respond promptly and politely to telephone and face‑to‑face enquiries, ensuring accurate message‑taking and appropriate escalation.
* Administrative Support: Provide day‑to‑day administrative support to ward managers and senior staff. Maintain effective organisation of unit paperwork and documentation. Liaise with clinical teams, bed managers, other departments to support effective communication and workflow. Arrange translation services when required, following approved Trust processes.
* Professional Standards: Uphold all Trust policies, including those relating to Infection Control, Confidentiality, Data Protection, and Uniform. Demonstrate sensitivity when supporting distressed or bereaved patients and families, escalating to senior staff where appropriate.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
* Literate with confidence using Word and Excel
* Secretarial/typing skills at NVQ level 3 or equivalent
* Good standard of spoken English
* Knowledge of medical terminology
* Awareness of NHS policies
* Awareness of Hospital computer system
Experience
* Previous Administrative and clerical experience
* Experience working with the public/customer service
* Experience of working in a team
* Previous work within the NHS
* Experience of working in a busy environment dealing with an increased workload
* Experience of working in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU)/High Dependency Unit (HDU) environment
Skills
* Competent in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
* Interpersonal skills, able to communicate sensitively with patient/primary care teams via phone and resolve any concerns as required
