Cambridge Regional College is seeking an inspirational and visionary leader to take the helm of our dynamic Engineering, Science and Computing Department. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of technical education, drive innovation, and make a lasting impact on students, staff, and industry.

About the Role

As Head of Department, you will lead the growth, development and organisation of a high-performing curriculum area. You will ensure outstanding student progress and achievement, while deploying staff effectively and fostering a culture of excellence and aspiration.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum & Delivery

Design and lead a future-focused curriculum aligned with industry needs and labour market trends.

Champion innovation in teaching and learning to engage and inspire students.

Drive improvements in student retention, attendance, success, progression, and work experience.

Monitor departmental KPIs and lead on internal quality assurance, including SAR and improvement plans.

Build strong industry links to enrich curriculum content and expand student opportunities.

Student Experience

Ensure every student has a personalised, high-quality learning journey.

Oversee enrolment, progress tracking, and compliance with English and Maths funding conditions.

Lead recruitment and conversion strategies in collaboration with Marketing and Admissions.

Promote enterprise, coordinate work experience, and maintain high standards of discipline.

Staff Leadership

Be a proactive and supportive line manager, role model and spokesperson for the College.

Recruit, induct and develop staff to meet departmental and strategic goals.

Conduct appraisals, set measurable targets, and implement performance improvement plans where needed.

College Contribution

Participate in the Duty Manager rota and contribute to college-wide initiatives.

Represent the College at external events and support marketing activities.

Manage departmental budgets and resources effectively.

Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health & safety, and equality policies.
