Environmental Enforcement Officer
Company: Kingdom Local Authority Support (Kingdom). Location: Dartford. Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday 07:00–15:00, Tuesday to Saturday 08:00–16:00). Pay: £13.97 per hour. Own transport is required.
As an Environmental Enforcement Officer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining public health, safety and environmental standards by enforcing environmental laws and regulations. You will investigate violations, issue warnings, fines or citations, and educate the public about environmental responsibilities. You will work closely with local authorities, businesses and residents to promote compliance and reduce environmental crimes such as littering, fly‑tipping and pollution.
Key Responsibilities
* Environmental Law Enforcement
o Enforce regulations and local by‑laws relating to littering, fly‑tipping, graffiti, waste management, noise pollution and other environmental concerns.
o Patrol assigned areas to detect violations and ensure compliance.
o Investigate reports of environmental offences from the public and respond promptly to complaints.
* Issuing Fines and Notices
o Issue fixed penalty notices (FPNs) and citations for non‑compliance.
o Prepare and serve legal documents, including warning notices and fines.
o Conduct follow‑up visits to ensure compliance and take further action if necessary.
* Investigation & Reporting
o Investigate environmental offences (illegal dumping, abandoned vehicles, unlawful waste disposal) by gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing case files.
o Use surveillance equipment, including cameras, to monitor and collect evidence.
o Report findings to senior management and collaborate with legal teams to pursue prosecutions.
* Court Proceedings & Legal Support
o Prepare case files for prosecution, including evidence, photographs and witness statements.
o Attend court proceedings and present evidence as required.
* Communicate information clearly and concisely to ensure understanding.
* Adapt to change and work effectively in various situations and weather conditions.
Professional Development
Participate in training courses to gain insight into daily duties, current legislation, communication and interaction aspects of the role, earning a recognised qualification in environmental awareness.
