Offer description

Overview

Never has there been a more exciting and challenging time to join the NHS. If you have the desire for a career in NHS leadership, hold a minimum 2:2 degree (awarded by July 2026) and can apply your passion, curiosity, drive and determination to make a difference, we are interested in you.

The NHS Wales Financial Management Graduate Scheme

The scheme offers the opportunity to work across the breadth of the finance function, providing a host of valuable and varied experiences in areas such as financial management, business partnering and financial planning. Trainees will be supported through formal activities and opportunistic events, guided by their Graduate Lead. The level of responsibility and complexity of work is expected to increase over the duration of the programme.

Duration and placement

This is a fixed-term 3-year post with the possible extension of up to 10 months, dependent on meeting certain conditions. If successful, you will be appointed to a finance role in one of our NHS Wales organisations for the duration of the scheme starting September 2026. For the 2026 cohort, vacancies are anticipated in the North, West and South of Wales.

What you will do

* Work within the finance department of your employing organisation, rotating through placements to gain experience across NHS finance.
* Take part in centrally provided placements on core financial services (accounts payable and payroll) provided by the Shared Services Partnership.
* Broaden experience with placements in other NHS Wales organisations in years 2 and 3.
* Study for an accredited professional accountancy qualification (ACCA) over 3 years and aim to achieve it to graduate from the scheme.
* Receive first-class training, mentor support and a generous study package.

Qualifications and requirements

* Minimum 2:2 degree (awarded by July 2026).
* Ability to study for and achieve the ACCA qualification within 3 years.
* Interest in developing financial management and leadership skills in a complex, clinical environment.

Support and development

Trainees are supported through formal activities and guidance from a Graduate Lead. The programme includes mentoring, structured learning and opportunities to develop professionally within NHS Wales finance.
