Radiotherapy Lecturer Practitioner
This unique role involves working as a senior radiographer in the radiotherapy department, caring for patients and supporting students at Health Sciences University (HSU). The successful applicant will be seconded to HSU for part of the week and will split time equally between both institutions.
Main duties of the job
At UHD the post holder will act as a senior radiographer, delivering high-quality radiotherapy treatment and planning of patients under the clinical oncologist’s direction. The role requires recognising when senior staff advice is needed and taking appropriate action.
At HSU duties include collaboration across both organisations, planning and coordinating practice placement allocations, onboarding students, designing and delivering inductions, and ensuring training programmes are delivered and competencies assessed. The post holder will also participate in clinical simulation delivery and professional development education and training.
The post holder will work with the Head of School for Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at HSU, Heads of Therapy Radiography, the Academic and Administrative Teams, and Therapeutic Radiographers.
Job responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Make emerging contributions to student experience and learning through educational enhancement activity (teaching and assessment).
* Support the effective admission of high-quality pre-qualifying and post-qualifying Therapeutic Radiographer students.
* Influence the quality of practice teaching by providing evidence-based educational and training support.
* Uphold high practice care standards in line with Trust and HSU through education and training.
* Support development of clinical skills, knowledge and attributes of students through professional education teaching.
* Carry a portfolio of work in line with Trust’s and HSU’s risks and priorities.
* Deliver accurate radiotherapy treatment/planning to the highest standards.
* Participate in supervision of students on units.
* Provide first-line advice to patients undergoing radiotherapy and signpost to support services.
* Use all equipment available in the assigned area.
* Provide information, education and emotional support to patients and carers during radiotherapy episode.
Person Specification
Education
* BSc or equivalent in Radiotherapy
* Registered as a Therapeutic Radiographer with the HCPC
* Hold a PG Cert Education
Experience
* Post-registration experience in radiotherapy.
* Experience of delivering education and training sessions to a small-medium group of people.
* Experience of authoring teaching sessions based on best practice or local policies.
Technical Skills
* Able to act as a deputy for the team leader in their absence.
* Demonstrate problem-solving and decision-making ability.
* Previous demonstrable participation in research and/or audit.
Knowledge
* Up to date knowledge in research and evidence-based practice.
* Able to stand and teach a large group.
* Demonstrable theoretical and practical knowledge of radiotherapy.
Other
* Work across all sites of HSU and radiotherapy catchment area.
