Job Description
Structural Integrity Engineer – Submarines, Full Time, Derby, Raynesway. We are recruiting for talented Engineers to join the Plant Structural Integrity department in Rolls-Royce Submarines.
As a structural integrity engineer, you will engage primarily in structural integrity assessments including primary strength, fatigue, fatigue crack growth and fracture assessments, in accordance with ASME III and R6 defect tolerance assessment code. You will support a wide range of programmes from in-service support, new build and future programmes. You will also build and maintain Finite Element Analyses models to extract stresses used to justify components.
The work is varied; you will be relied upon to respond rapidly to emergent challenges, providing a vital service to the Submarines enterprise.

What you will be doing
* Undertaking a broad range of mechanical assessments, including linear and non-linear finite element analyses.
* Using traditional hand calculation methods, commercial finite element codes (mainly Abaqus) and bespoke analysis tools.
* Developing and substantiating component designs, informing through-life management and supporting submarine enterprise.
* Developing and implementing methodologies to assess submarine nuclear plant components.
* Relaying the method and outcome of assessments clearly and efficiently to a range of audiences within Rolls-Royce, industry partners and customer organisations.

* Essential: Degree level (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering, physics or mathematics. Ability to prioritise tasks and work on multiple projects. Demonstrated interest and expertise in structural integrity analysis.
* Desirable: Knowledge of failure mechanisms and assessment methods. Practical experience with finite element methods (preferably Abaqus) for structural component assessment, with experience supporting manufacturing engineers, designers and safety case authors. Knowledge of linear and non-linear events. Experience generating and working with finite element models using tools such as Abaqus, ANSYS, HyperMesh. Experience in an industry where safety is a priority and components are justified to safety cases and/or design code requirements (ASME III, R6). Membership or Associate Membership of a relevant professional institution and working toward chartership.
Security and eligibility We require candidates to hold a Security Check clearance to work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if not already held. Due to the nature of work, applications are limited to UK nationals or dual nationals as approved by MoD.
