About the Role
We are seeking a qualified and motivated Civil Litigation Lawyer to join a well-established in-house legal team within a leading Local Authority. This is an excellent opportunity to undertake a varied and stimulating caseload while supporting key client departments, including Housing, in delivering their objectives.
The role involves handling a broad range of civil litigation matters, ensuring claims are managed efficiently and fairly, while balancing the needs of the Council and its service users.
Key Responsibilities
* Managing a diverse caseload of civil litigation matters from instruction through to conclusion
* Advising client departments on legal risks, strategy, and dispute resolution
* Conducting advocacy in court and, where appropriate, tribunal settings
* Handling matters including:
* Disrepair claims and associated defences
* Applications for court injunctions, including access to property
* Debt recovery and enforcement proceedings
* General civil litigation matters affecting the Authority
* Drafting pleadings, witness statements, and legal correspondence
* Working collaboratively with colleagues to deliver a high-quality legal service
About You
* Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with full practising rights
* Experience in civil litigation
* Advocacy experience in court (tribunal advocacy desirable)
* Enthusiastic, flexible, and a strong team player
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
* Hardworking, with strong organisational and case management skills
