The role
As a Weld Training Officer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll deliver training and qualifications to apprentices, experienced welders, and future talent, ensuring compliance with ISO, ASME, and DefStan standards.
Day-to-day, you’ll be central to developing the next generation of highly skilled welders who support critical defence projects across surface fleet, submarine platforms, and site facilities.
1. Overseeing the full welder training and qualification process.
2. Conducting visual weld inspections and coordinating NDE and destructive testing.
3. Developing and delivering training programmes across multiple welding processes.
4. Ensuring all documentation meets quality and compliance standards.
5. Supporting welders at all levels to achieve certification and excellence.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Weld Training Officer
6. Strong knowledge of welding processes: MMA, FCAW, MIG/MAG, and TIG.
7. Excellent communication skills and computer literacy.
8. Meticulous attention to detail when presenting technical information.
9. Sound understanding of welding techniques and associated challenges.
10. Knowledge of quality control and documentation requirements.
Qualifications for the Weld Training Officer
11. City & Guilds Craft Apprenticeship in Fabrication/Engineering or equivalent.
12. Willingness to undertake further training, including CSWTO certification.
13. Commitment to completing CSWIP Weld Instructor courses and exams.
14. CSWIP 3.0 Visual Weld Inspection - Desirable.
