About this opportunity
Cumberland Environmental Health ensures that people living and working environments are safe, healthy, hygienic and that consumers are protected. The service provides a wide range of regulatory activities including private sector housing, air quality, animal licensing, environmental protection and nuisance control, health and safety, food safety, infectious disease control, private water sampling, port health and public health licensing. The service focuses on prevention, consultation, investigation, education and, where required, enforcement. This role will focus on private sector housing.
Purpose of role
* To provide technical advice to residents, landlords, Elected Members and senior officers on environmental health in the specialist area of private sector housing.
* To investigate housing complaints using the Housing, Health and Safety Rating System and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation (MEES, Electrical Safety Standards etc).
* To ensure the case management system is kept up to date and holds all relevant information related to individual cases.
* To lead on the licensing of Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMOS).
* To lead on any enforcement required under the Housing Act 2004, liaising with the council’s legal department where appropriate, in line with the Cumberland Enforcement Policy.
* Where appropriate, to investigate criminal offences and noncompliance with a view to reporting for formal action.
