The Vacancy
As a wind-up consultant, your role will include leading clients through their wind-up journey, working with Trustee Boards and Sponsoring Employers of UK defined benefit pension schemes.
You will be a key member of the Pension Scheme Wind Up Team, coordinating with stakeholders and advisers. Your focus will be on delivering advice to clients, building relationships with decision-makers, managing projects, and coaching less experienced team members.
The ideal candidate will have experience in pension scheme consulting, whether in Trustee Executive, actuarial, or scheme management roles. A strong understanding of pensions management, client-facing experience, and some exposure to new business development are desirable. You will work closely with the wider team supporting each scheme.
Key Responsibilities:
* Leading wind-up projects, liaising with trustees and stakeholders.
* Overseeing planning and execution of scheme wind-ups.
* Handling strategic and technical aspects, such as scheme factor comparisons, lump sum exercises, funding reserves, and surplus sheets.
* Prospecting and planning for future wind-up cases.
* Developing wind-up propositions and building internal relationships.
* Training clients and internal teams.
* Managing client budgets, deadlines, and service agreements.
Practice Development:
* Delivering high-quality advice and collaborating within client teams.
* Understanding client needs to provide tailored solutions.
* Engaging in project work, new service initiatives, and business development.
* Mentoring junior staff and participating in internal strategic forums.
* Contributing to technical knowledge through CPD and peer reviews.
Working Practices:
* Building internal and external networks.
* Providing leadership and mentoring to client teams.
* Managing service delivery efficiently and within budgets.
* Communicating clearly with clients and colleagues.
* Maintaining rigorous work standards and audit trails.

Skills and Qualifications:
Qualifications:
* Professional qualification in pensions (e.g., APMI, AFPC, IFoA) preferred.
* Honours Degree preferred.
* Equivalent experience or education at A’ level/Scottish Higher level.
Technical Skills:
* Experience in corporate transactions, risk transfer, liability management, or related areas.
* Understanding of employee benefits and ability to advise on strategy.
* Experience in UK pension fund consultancy or trustee roles.
* Solid legislative knowledge of UK pension schemes.
* Strong organizational, analytical, and influencing skills.
* Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and solve problems.
