Key Responsibilities
As a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant, your role is crucial to the success of the classroom. You will be responsible for:
* Delivering one-to-one or small-group support to pupils with diverse learning needs, including autism, ADHD, and moderate to severe learning difficulties.
* Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and achieve specific learning targets.
* Helping to adapt activities and lessons to ensure all children can fully participate and feel included in the school community.
* Utilising proactive and positive behaviour management strategies to support pupils with complex needs, in line with school policy.
* Fostering communication and social skills, helping children to develop confidence and independence.
* Collaborating with external professionals, such as therapists and educational psychologists, to provide holistic support for the child.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must have:
* Demonstrable experience working with children with SEN in a school or similar setting.
* An Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for a new one).
* The legal right to work in the UK without any restrictions.
* Specific training in areas such as Team Teach, Makaton, PECS, or similar strategies is preferred.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* A nurturing and patient approach to working with children.
* A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs.
