Director of Legal Advice Centre
About:
As a key member of the newly developed School of Criminology, Politics and Law, we want you to further develop our established Legal Advice Clinic to ensure that our students can gain an authentic understanding of what it is like to be a legal practitioner.
You will be expected to lead the strategic and organizational development of the Law Clinic, in doing so you will look to build on the existing successful provision, with a view to working with practitioners, external agencies, such as Law Works, CA as well as the wider community. In doing so we expect that you will be able to represent the University in the field of Clinical legal education, regionally, nationally and internationally. We are keen to hear from practitioners who may be interested in working with SMEs, incubator organisations as well working with our existing and well-established projects and partnerships. An interest in being part of a key group which will be developing partnerships and opportunities for providing potential training activities to be based in our fantastic law courts, would also be an advantage.
We also will want you to be proactive in relation to all aspects management, research and teaching within the Law Clinic, this will include being involved in all aspects of recruitment to the Law clinic supervisor roles and aspects of performance management for the team.
You will be expected to take leadership in the design and delivery of CLE in the new School and contribute to interdisciplinary research across the University. In terms of teaching and support, it is also expected that you will take on responsibility for the convening and delivery of the following modules, the Law Clinic and our introduction to legal practice module - Real World Law, as well as providing supervision for a small group of students in their work in the Law Clinic
Who are we looking for:
We want a person who can demonstrate at least 10 years recent and relevant working experience at the level sought for the post, of which at least 5 years must be general legal practice experience and 5 years management experience You also need to have been admitted as a Solicitor or Barrister with a current practicing certificate, or the ability to gain one. We would also like you to have been involved with working with trainees and have a good working knowledge of the developing nature of the legal services sector, Dispute resolution, professional education and the recent proposal for reforms in legal education.
As you would expect the role will also have as another part to it, research - that is both in relation to markets and opportunities - the Commercial side of the Law Clinic, as well as the academic- understanding and being able to research into the value of CLE to the wider community. It is important also that you are familiar with CRMS, we use CLIO, so if you have an understanding of this that would be of an advantage.
Above all, we want someone who has a passion for teaching and supporting students who want to progress into the legal profession !
