Senior RF Engineer | RF, Microwave & mmWave Design | Cambridge (Hybrid)
We’re looking for a Senior RF Engineer to join a specialist team designing and delivering high-performance RF, microwave, and millimetre‑wave subsystems for aerospace, defence, space, and advanced communications applications.
You’ll take ownership of RF circuit design, simulation, measurement, and validation at component and subsystem level — producing hardware that meets stringent electrical, thermal, and manufacturing standards.
This is a hands‑on technical role focused on design quality, test, and real engineering depth — not management layers.
Responsibilities
* Design and develop RF and mmWave circuits, components, and subsystems
* Perform simulation, analysis, and optimisation using ADS, HFSS, CST, or equivalent tools
* Conduct RF measurements, characterisation, and validation of prototypes and production hardware
* Diagnose and resolve complex performance and integration issues
* Produce design documentation, test procedures, and data packs for internal and customer reviews
* Support transfer from prototype through to manufacturing and qualification
* Work cross‑functionally with mechanical, process, and systems engineers to ensure design robustness
Requirements
* Degree (or equivalent experience) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
* Proven background in RF or microwave circuit design, ideally including mmWave
* Experience with S-parameters, impedance matching, filters, amplifiers, mixers, and LNAs
* Proficiency in simulation and modelling (ADS, AWR, HFSS, CST, or similar)
* Skilled with VNA, spectrum analysers, power meters, and signal generators
* Understanding of DfM, DfT, and high-reliability design processes
* Experience taking designs through concept, layout, bring‑up, and verification
* Experience with GaAs, GaN, or SiGe technologies
* Familiarity with waveguide, coaxial, or surface‑mount RF packaging
* Understanding of EMC and environmental test requirements
* Background in defence, space, or high-spec communication systems
Package
Competitive salary and benefits package, plus clear scope to progress in a technically advanced and growing RF engineering team based in Cambridge.
Job Details
* Seniority level: Mid‑Senior level
* Employment type: Full‑time
* Industries: Engineering Services, Defence and Space Manufacturing
