This role is ideal for someone who holds a NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and is passionate about influencing positive health and safety outcomes across a large, diverse organisation.

The Health and Safety Team plays a vital role in enabling the Council to deliver services safely, legally and effectively across a wide range of activities, from frontline services to major construction projects. As a corporate function, the team works with services across the Authority, supporting managers and employees to manage risk proportionately while continually strengthening our health, safety and wellbeing culture. You’ll be joining a professional, supportive team that values partnership working, practical solutions and continuous improvement.

As a Health and Safety Officer, you will provide professional advice, guidance and support to managers and employees on the effective management of health and safety. While the role may predominantly support specific service areas, including Social Services, you will work as part of a corporate team, providing cover and support across other Directorates as required.

Your daily routine will include:

2. Carrying out health and safety audits, inspections and safety tours
3. Investigating workplace accidents, incidents and near misses
4. Advising on risk assessments and safe systems of work
5. Preparing and presenting health and safety reports to meetings and committees
6. Working collaboratively with managers, stakeholders and trade unions

About you:

Do you have:

7. A NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
8. Experience working as a Health and Safety practitioner within a complex or multi‑disciplinary organisation
9. Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and effective safety management practices
10. Experience of conducting audits, inspections and incident investigations
11. The ability to provide clear, practical advice to managers and employees
12. Confidence presenting information at meetings, committees or forums
13. Strong written and verbal communication skills
14. Experience using standard IT systems (e.g. Microsoft applications)

If you think you have the necessary experience, skills and qualifications for this role, we would love to hear from you.

About us:

We believe in rewarding and recognising our colleagues’ efforts and achievements. We also believe that there’s life at work and life outside of work. We want everyone to be healthy and happy and have the financial resources and support they need.

Choose to work for us and you’ll be rewarded with a range of attractive benefits and support to help you live your best life.

15. Hybrid working (in some roles) and flexible working schemes to improve your work life balance
16. Benefit from a competitive employee package with a remarkable 15.3% employer pension contribution
17. Enjoy a holiday entitlement of 25 days, increasing to 32 days after 5 years’ service (not forgetting the additional 8 bank holidays too)
18. Access discounted gym membership with Celtic Leisure
19. Utilise the cycle to work scheme with up to 40% off bikes and cycling equipment
20. Purchase a new car through Tusker salary sacrifice scheme
21. Enjoy exclusive discounts at local and national retailers with the Smart Spend app through our staff wellbeing group.
