81802 - Assistant Projects Surveyor

This Assistant Projects Surveyor will report to the Consent Lead EPN and will work within Capital Programme -Major Projects Consents and StakeholderEngagement based in our Bury St Edmunds office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £46,164 and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote

Job Purpose

To obtain the necessary consents associated with CPP instructions within a defined geographic footprint.

You will report directly to the Major Projects Consent Manager. You will oversee the acquisition of legal acquisition and (where appropriate) disposal of operational property freeholds and leaseholds, easements, statutory consents and wayleaves associated with Alliance and Major Connections projects.

Dimensions

10. No direct reports, supporting colleagues within Major projects Consents team, project Managers, Designers and Alliance staff;
11. Undertake a 2 year internal training plan supported by the Consents Lead and Senior Surveyor.
12. With support, we manage discussions with grantors, land agents, solicitors and consultants about the installation, retention, or alteration of UK Power Networks network infrastructure within Capital programme.
13. With support, make justifiable decisions in consultation with Project Managers and Consents surveyors, as well as with the Consent Manager regarding financial commitments, strategy and legal matters in association with APP and Major Connections projects.
14. With support, carry out instructions to Network's Solicitor or external solicitors/partners;

Principle Accountabilities

15. Implement Consents strategy with support.
16. Report important performance measures
17. Implement processes concerning legal acquisition, land consenting, planning consents and environmental consenting including but not limited to acquisition of new freehold or leasehold operational property, deeds of grant, wayleaves, Permitted development, planning consent and other environmental and statutory consents.
18. Work with UK Power Networks' legal team, providing general legal and practical advice regarding the consents strategies in the Capital delivery portfolios.
19. Maintain important external partner relationships, in particular with major grantors and their agents, Planning Authorities and Statutory undertakers.
20. Represent Consents at meetings or workshops.
21. Promote and help to develop an outstanding team culture with working relationships and communications within the team and across the Business;.
22. Focus on safety – ensure that you correctly apply appropriate risk assessments and use of PPE on all occasions.

23. To meet all individual coaching requirements and performance targets.
24. Deliver all consents related projects with support.

Qualifications

Required

25. GCSE Math's, English, Science Grade C and above (or equivalent)
26. A Levels, Level 4 or 96 UCAS points equivalent or willingness to obtain equivalent.
27. High levels of Safety awareness and principles.
28. Awareness of corporate and business practice.
29. Have high levels of interpersonal awareness and able to evidence pro social behaviours.
30. Self-motivated, but also a team player

Desirable (training can be provided)

31. Utilities Consenting and a technical understanding concerning the legal aspects of operational property and wayleaves consents, planning consenting process and environmental consenting.
32. Surveying experience or qualification.
33. Knowledge of property and utilities consenting issues.
34. Working knowledge of agriculture to promote negotiations of compensation claims
35. An understanding of valuation principles to land and property.
36. Awareness of primary and secondary legislation concerning utilities' operations; such as statutory instruments affecting electricity transmission and distribution assets.
37. Awareness of relationships between stakeholders in the electricity utility businesses – including government, environmental, statutory authorities and business departments and customers.

This includes briefing individuals working for them and ensuring there is the necessary understanding, competence and application of requirements to work safely and without harming the environment.

Employees will ensure they understand the health and safety risks involved in their work activities and their responsibility to apply the controls needed to manage those risks to acceptable levels. Similarly where work activities can have an adverse impact upon the environment, and where there are legal requirements, employees will understand those impacts and the controls they must ensure are applied.
