Community Engagement Officer - West Cornwall at The Filo Project
The Filo Project is a not-for-profit enterprise offering high quality, small group day care for older people. Small groups give time and space for people to feel at ease and form friendships. The Filo Project started in Devon in 2014 and expanded to Somerset in 2020. Since then we have expanded into East Lancashire and Cornwall, and are launching in Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole. Our service is primarily for those who are socially isolated and may also be experiencing symptoms associated with early to moderate dementia including memory loss.
Community Engagement Officer Job Description
The Community Engagement Coordinator works with the Chief Operating Officer, Service Manager and Local Area Coordinator to manage the relationship between The Filo Project and its local community. The role involves fostering positive relationships and partnerships within the community, developing and implementing strategies to engage stakeholders including clients, families, caregivers, future hosts and local organisations, enhancing awareness of The Filo Project services, promoting community engagement and ensuring high-quality care that meets diverse needs.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
* Develop and execute a comprehensive community engagement plan for your area to raise awareness of The Filo Project, increase access for individuals in need of services, and engage potential future hosts.
* Elevate existing relationships and establish positive relationships with key stakeholders (local health & social service organisations, community groups, government agencies).
* Collaborate with internal teams to identify opportunities for outreach and partnership development.
* Organise and participate in community events, workshops, and information sessions to educate the public about the service.
* Conduct outreach activities to connect with potential clients, families and caregivers, providing information, support and guidance.
* Collect feedback to identify areas for improvement and inform service development.
* Assist Communications Team in developing marketing materials (brochures, flyers, social media content).
* Stay informed about community needs to adapt engagement strategies.
* Maintain accurate records of engagement activities for reporting and evaluation.
* Identify key stakeholders, maintain contact list and records of engagements.
* Work closely with Area Coordinator to ensure effective operations.
* Communicate through email, newsletters, phone calls, social media.
* Monitor engagement activities, contribute to reports and program evaluation projects.
* Coordinate with other departments for brand consistency.
Work Environment
* Lone working – working from home and in client/host homes.
* Excellent induction and support from COO and Service Manager for first six months.
* Liaise with wider team (Communications, Recruitment, Head Office).
* Training in Dementia, Safeguarding and Data Protection.
Person Specification – Essential Requirements
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Experience developing and implementing community engagement strategies.
* Proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram).
* Excellent verbal and written communication.
* Proficiency with Google Workspace and general IT skills.
* Strong organisational skills, able to manage multiple projects.
* Professionalism when representing the company.
* Ability to work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
* Confidence as a lone worker and good team player.
* Self‑motivation, flexible and creative approach.
* Understanding of older people's needs.
* Caring and empathetic disposition.
* Excellent face‑to‑face and written communication.
* Good telephone manner.
* Clean, valid driving licence and use of own car.
* Good people skills, ability to foster relationships.
Desirable Skills
* Previous community engagement, outreach or advocacy roles.
* Supervisory or leadership experience.
* Administrative experience.
Pay and Hours
£13.22 per hour plus mileage expenses. Part‑time flexible contract – up to 10 hours per week. Flexible schedule, expected 5‑10 hours per week. Paid holiday 0.12 hours per hour worked, two‑week maximum per year.
