Senior/Principal Firmware Engineer / Firmware Architect

The central Firmware team provides integral support across several of our internal business domains, delivering critical strategic, requirement, and delivery activities. The team works on a diverse portfolio of projects covering Aerospace/Avionics, Optronics, Intelligence, Communication, and Underwater Systems.
We are recruiting for a Senior/Principal Firmware Engineer/Firmware Architect to join us in Belfast and become a key part of a team with a proven track record for delivering firmware. This role will be responsible for firmware across our development programmes.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead firmware teams to deliver projects on time, within cost, and to agreed quality.
* Architect firmware designs that promote reusable firmware development.
* Verify firmware using Hardware Verification Languages or Hardware Description Languages.
* Design firmware using Hardware Description Languages.
* Enhance firmware-related processes, including documentation, scripting, reporting, and process automation.
* Work closely with multidisciplinary teams.
* Manage firmware project work packages.
Desired Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience
We are looking for a successful candidate to hold a relevant degree—BEng, MEng, EngD, or PhD—in electronics or an equivalent field. Membership or fellowship of a professional engineering body, preferably with or working towards chartered status, would be advantageous.
Specialisation / Knowledge In Some Of The Following Areas
* Verification TestBench architecture with SystemVerilog or C++.
* Verification methodology: Advanced VHDL verification or OSVVM/UVVM.
* Requirements management: IBM Rational DOORS.
* Simulation of designs using Mentor Graphics Modelsim/QuestaSim.
* Digital electronic design in VHDL and either Verilog or SystemVerilog.
* Implementation of complex designs using vendor‑specific development tools.
* Object‑oriented design techniques.
* Image processing techniques and algorithms.
* Algorithm development using MATLAB.
* Linux development environments.
Security Clearance Statement
This role will require SC clearance. It is advantageous if you already hold SC clearance; if not, successful applicants will need to obtain, achieve, and maintain SC clearance. Generally, you must have resided in the UK for the last five years (or, in some circumstances, a minimum of three years within the last five years). Refer to the UKSV website for guidance and to the National Security Vetting (NSV) Agency for details on evidence required for baseline and security clearance.
