Offer description

We are looking for a Salaried GP to work with us for six sessions per week (4 hours 10 minutes per session) Monday - Wednesday.

We are a motivated and long standing, friendly team who pride ourselves on providing an enjoyable place to work.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, EConsults, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner.

All candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and be on the Primary Medical Services Performer List.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

In accordance with the Practice timetable, asagreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a varietyof duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries,visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions anddealing with queries, paperwork, reports and correspondence in a timelyfashion.

Making professional, autonomous decisions inrelation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from otherhealth care workers within the organisation.

Assessing the health care needs of patients withundifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

Screening patients for disease risk factors andearly signs of illness.

In consultation with patients and in line withcurrent Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans forhealth.

Providing counselling and health education.

Admitting or discharging patients to and from thecaseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultationnotes to agreed standards.

Collecting data for audit purposes and complyingwith QOF requirements.

Delivering enhanced services.

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute andrepeat prescriptions in line with practice policy. Prescribing in accordance with the Practiceprescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.

Undertake all the normal duties andresponsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other Responsibilities within the Organisation:

Awareness of and compliance with all relevantPractice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, dataprotection, health and safety.

A commitment to life-long learning and audit toensure evidence-based best practice.

Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinicalstandard setting within the organisation.

Contributing to the development of computer-basedpatient records.

Attending training and events organised by thePractice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Attending practice meetings as per agreed job plan

Confidentiality:

In the course of seeking treatment, patientsentrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation totheir health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right toexpect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately.

In the performance of the duties outlined in thisJob Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential informationrelating to patients and their carers, Practice staff and other healthcareworkers. They may also have access to information relating to the Practice as abusiness organisation. All such information from any source is to be regardedas strictly confidential.

Information relating to patients, carers,colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may onlybe divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies andprocedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal andsensitive data.

The post-holder will assist in promoting andmaintaining their own and others’ health, safety and security as defined in thePractice Health & Safety Policy, to include:

Using personal security systems within theworkplace according to Practice guidelines.

Identifying the risks involved in work activitiesand undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks.

Making effective use of training to updateknowledge and skills.

Using appropriate infection control procedures,maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards.

In addition to maintaining continued educationthrough attendance at any courses and/or study days necessary to ensure thatprofessional development requirements for PREP are met, the post-holder willparticipate in any training programme implemented by the Practice as part ofthis employment, such training to include:

Participation in an annual individual performancereview, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of ownpersonal and/or professional development.

Taking responsibility for own development, learningand performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who areundertaking similar work.

The post-holder will strive to maintain qualitywithin the Practice, and will:

Ensure that any incidents, no matter of the harmcaused, are reported, investigated and the learning shared via the governancestructure of the Practice

Ensures and works with others to ensure thepractice meets the Health and Social Care Act regulatory standards as monitoredby the Care Quality commission

The post-holder should recognise the importance ofeffective communication within the team and will strive to:

Communicate effectively with other team members.

Communicate effectively with patients and carers.

Recognise people’s needs for alternative methods ofcommunication and respond accordingly.

Communicate effectively with other agencies asappropriate
