The NHS Wales Financial Management Graduate Scheme offers you the opportunity to work across the breadth of the finance function, providing valuable and varied experiences in areas such as financial management, business partnering and financial planning. The scheme will stretch you and help develop your financial management and leadership skills while studying for a professional accountancy qualification (ACCA).
What the scheme offers
Designed to develop the next generation of finance leaders, you will work in complex, challenging environments in partnership with clinicians and other professionals. Trainees are supported through formal activities and mentoring, with increasing levels of responsibility and complexity over the duration of the programme. This is a fixed term 3-year post with the possible extension of a further 10 months dependent on meeting certain conditions. If successful, you will be appointed to a finance role in one of our NHS Wales organisations for the duration of the scheme commencing September 2026. For the 2026 cohort, vacancies are expected in the North, West and South of Wales.
Most learning is hands-on within the finance department of your employing organisation. You will rotate through placements to gain experience and a solid grounding in all aspects of NHS finance. Centrally provided placements on core financial services such as accounts payable and payroll are provided by the Shared Services Partnership, with additional placements in other NHS Wales organisations in the second and third year.
You will study for an accredited professional accountancy qualification (ACCA) over 3 years and are expected to achieve this qualification in order to graduate from the scheme. You can expect first-class training and mentor support and a generous study package.
Responsibilities
* Rotate through multiple placements within NHS finance to gain broad experience across financial management, business partnering and financial planning.
* Work in partnership with clinicians and other professionals in complex environments.
* Participate in formal activities and events guided by the Graduate Lead.
* Progressively take on higher levels of responsibility and more challenging work over the programme.
Qualifications and eligibility
* Minimum 2:2 degree (awarded by July 2026).
* Eligibility to work in the UK (visa sponsorship not available).
* Support for right to work in the UK; offers subject to evidence of right to work.

* Fixed term contract/secondment with performance reviews.
