Our mission is to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where every pupil can reach their potential academically, socially, and emotionally. Our approach is based on inclusive education principles, using evidence-based strategies to personalise learning and support individual development. The school offers a range of interventions and therapies, including speech and language support, occupational therapy, and social-emotional skill development. Staff work collaboratively across teaching, pastoral, and therapy teams to provide holistic support tailored to each pupil. We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team. This is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children with complex needs, supporting their learning, communication, and social development. The Role The SEN Teaching Assistant will provide direct and personalised support to pupils in the classroom and during other school activities. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to implement individual education plans (IEPs), behaviour support strategies, and targeted interventions. You will be involved in small-group and one-to-one support, helping pupils engage with learning, develop independence, and improve their social, communication, and emotional skills. The role requires patience, adaptability, and a thorough understanding of SEN approaches, including strategies for supporting children with ASD, ADHD, and other developmental needs. Key Responsibilities Support pupils with SEN and complex needs in classroom and group settings. Assist in the implementation of IEPs, behaviour support plans, and personalised learning strategies. Provide one-to-one and small group support for academic, social, and emotional development. Use evidence-based approaches to encourage positive behaviour, communication, and engagement. Support teachers in lesson delivery, classroom management, and preparation of resources. Assist pupils with daily routines, transitions, and self-care tasks, promoting independence. Monitor and record pupil progress, including behavioural observations, learning milestones, and intervention outcomes. Collaborate with colleagues, therapists, and external agencies to ensure consistency of support across learning environments. Attend meetings, training sessions, and professional development to stay up-to-date with SEN best practices and safeguarding requirements. Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment that respects the individual needs of every pupil. Person Specification The ideal candidate will: Have experience working with children with SEN, including ASD, ADHD, learning difficulties, or complex needs. Demonstrate patience, empathy, and resilience in supporting children with a variety of challenges. Understand the principles of inclusive education and personalised learning. Be able to implement behaviour management strategies effectively and consistently. Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to engage with pupils, parents, and staff. Be confident in supporting academic, social, and emotional development, and promoting independence. Be committed to safeguarding, child protection, and professional ethics. Hold relevant qualifications such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, SEN Support, or equivalent experience. Work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, including teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff. Be proactive in problem-solving, planning interventions, and adapting strategies to meet individual pupil needs. Professional Development and Benefits We are committed to the professional growth of our staff, offering training, mentorship, and opportunities to expand your expertise in SEN education. Benefits include: Specialist SEN training, including autism awareness, ADHD support strategies, communication interventions, and positive behaviour management. Ongoing mentoring from experienced SEN teachers and therapists. Opportunities to contribute to school-wide initiatives, intervention programs, and enrichment activities. Access to professional networks, workshops, and seminars to enhance knowledge and career development. Supportive and collaborative working environment that values wellbeing, innovation, and inclusivity. Potential pathways for progression within the SEN sector, including lead teaching assistant, SEN coordinator, or pastoral roles. Practical experience in delivering personalised education and therapeutic support to children with a wide range of needs. Safeguarding Statement The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff are required to adhere to safeguarding policies, undergo an enhanced DBS check, and provide references prior to appointment.
