Posted: 30 August
Offer description

At Severn Trent, we're embarking on an exciting £415m project to replace 870 miles of old water pipes across the Midlands. This is the biggest investment in water infrastructure in the region in a decade, aiming to improve water quality, reduce leaks, and provide a more reliable water supply for millions of people. The new pipes installed will last up to 100 years.

To bring this vision to life, we are creating new jobs across the region, with opportunities available in Birmingham, Nottingham, or anywhere in between. We are looking for a Water Construction Technician to work as part of a team to deliver mains renewal construction activities at specific sites within one of the four regions (North, South, East, and West).

Everything You Need to Know

The Water Construction Technician's key role will be to operate assets on the network on behalf of the construction team while carrying out large-scale mains renewal work at designated locations. You will support the Network Construction Manager in the planning and delivery of schemes within your area of responsibility and work alongside the Lead Operative to execute on-site activities.

This role involves significant construction activity, including excavation, installation, testing, and commissioning of new mains and assets. You will be responsible for delivering the work within set budgets, collaborating with the Network Control Manager.

The role requires a 42-hour work week, Monday to Friday, starting at 7:30 AM and ending at 4:30 PM, with an early finish at 4:00 PM on Fridays.

Key Responsibilities

* Conduct pre-site checks with the Network Construction Manager and identify key assets for risk assessment and contingency planning.
* Communicate with Network Control during critical scheme stages, supporting the on-site construction activities such as pipe fusing, service laying, and overlanding.
* Perform valving due diligence, chlorination, and sampling of mains and services in accordance with SOPs and SSOW.
* Carry out operational activities like flushing, cleansing, and installing pressure control valves, managing pressure, flow, and disinfection, including high and low-risk valve operations.

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate will have a full driving license, with preferred qualifications including National Water Hygiene and NRSWA. Significant utility industry experience is desirable. Good communication skills, team orientation, risk awareness, and a positive attitude are essential.

What We Offer

Working at Severn Trent is more than just a job; it’s a career opportunity. We offer competitive benefits, including holiday entitlement, bonus schemes, pension contributions, share schemes, training, EV schemes, family policies, volunteering days, and potential earnings from mains renewal incentives.
