Who you’ll be supporting & more about the role: At present three people live at Rosedale bungalow in Flaxton St, our second bungalow, Rosewood, has a new resident and we are waiting for our second resident to move in – exciting times! We have all lived at Flaxton St for several years now where the team support us to manage various challenges such as different communication styles, bi-polar disorder, epilepsy and onset of dementia. Most of the team have been supporting us for a long time now, but new faces are always welcome. Our support team aris trained to ensure we live our best lives possible so that we enjoy fun, laughter and music! At Rosedale we have a happy, lively day filled with the activities we enjoy such as trips to the seaside, bowling, arts and crafts, shopping, eating out, cinema and discos.We all enjoy helping with baking and cooking, eating together, watching TV, puzzles, music. Individually we enjoy knitting, gardening, air guitar and line dancing, so quite a varied group but we have fun. The team encourage us to do as much as we can for ourselves and to explore local places and activities. We are using public transport now so learning bus times and how to get about is an adventure. We are planning a train trip to Newcastle for a day out in the big city. Next stop, London! Listening and respecting us as individuals is so important - as is a jolly good laugh and some fun! There are usually four staff on, depending on what we are doing, the staff rota is flexible to our needs. Overnight we have a waking night and sleep-in staff. As we are all mobile and as independent as possible staff are there to encourage us with prompts to keep motivated, safe and healthy. Most of the team has been at Flaxton St for a number of years so we are all like a big family who know, understand and get along together. Our team are well trained in supporting us with our health and contact the local GP or LDP health team should we need extra support. Our Social Workers and Commissioners stay in touch and visit regularly for a cuppa and chat to see how we are getting along. The team often adjust their working hours to support our activities if we want to go to a disco or for a longer trip out but working to a shift pattern gives us all some structure and helps us to plan our week. Recently our team has had additional training on Community mapping and support planning so the way in which they help us record our daily lives improves. C-i-c ensures that the team receive this training and any updates needed to keep us safe, healthy and able to engage in activities of our choice.
