Maintenance technician

Offer description

Did you know that our state of the art recycling plant is able to process more items, more efficiently than any other site in the UK? We’re proud to be the most efficient and advanced and we’ve set a new standard in recovering metals, plastics, and gases, processing 100 fridges per hour. That’s around 700,000 per year!

We’re committed to extracting as much value as possible from the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) that is thrown away by UK households every year. We’re growing rapidly and with that growth comes exciting new opportunities to innovate, push boundaries, and lead the way in how the UK recycles its electrical appliances.

That’s where you come in. We’re looking for a Maintenance Technician to join our site Engineering team on our Fridge plant in Telford. As one of AO’s Maintenance Technician’s, you’ll oversee work to the plant, delivering planned maintenance schedules, and getting stuck in with improvement projects to drive the plant’s reliability and keep costs down. Our second site is a fully automated plastic recycling facility where we combine sink-float technology and electrostatic separation to turn mixed fridge plastics into high-quality recycled products.

If you’re energetic, hands-on, passionate, and professional, this one’s for you!

Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing

No two days are the same here at AO Recycling, but here’s what a day could look like for you…

· Working Monday to Friday day shifts

· Contribute ideas for further optimisation of the plant

· Get stuck in to engineering project work and play a part in new installations or refurbishments

· Carrying out equipment commissioning and testing

· Complete dynamic risk assessments and adopt a ‘clean-as-you-go’ approach to keep our plant super safe

· Keep an eye out for any malfunctioning equipment and keep site management in the loop

· Log your daily progress in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

· Call on your engineering expertise in problem-solving workshops

· Kick off each day with operational review meetings, providing updates on project engineering/optimisation work

A Few Things About You

We don’t expect you to know everything about our technology and equipment, but you’d be an asset to our team if you’re…

· A qualified engineer with mechanical or electrical bias to minimum level 3

· Experienced within a similar process, production, or manufacturing environment

· An excellent communicator, both written and verbal

· Highly organised with the ability to plan and prioritise workload

· Clued-up on Environmental, Health & Safety regulations, and safe systems of work (e.g. plant isolations and safety systems)

· Previous experience in plant installations and optimisations.

We’ve designed our benefits to cover everything from big moments to little helps. As well all as the essentials, like pensions and holidays, we’ve got our own "AO Perks" to help you with the little things that matter.

· Holidays; 30 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays)

· Pension; Contribute 5% of your annual salary and we'll do the same, giving you a little extra support for the future.

Reasonable adjustments

We want to make sure you're given the best possible chance to shine in your interview, so you may need us to do things in a slightly different way. This could be requesting a ground floor room or bringing along a sign interpreter to name just a few.

Fill in the below box if there's anything we need to know so we can adjust the process to support you.

AO is for everyone

We should all feel that we belong. That's why we are creating a welcoming and inclusive place to work.

We're proud to be different. From how we look to the way we talk to our customers, we skip to the beat of our very own drum. We know that being different together is our superpower and we celebrate it because it makes us stronger, more creative, and better at what we do.

We believe the people we employ should reflect the diversity of our customer base; that way, we can communicate in a way that recognises all backgrounds, races, ethnicities, genders, ages, religions, abilities, and sexual orientations.

And that's why we're asking these questions. Making sure our recruitment process is inclusive is a key part of what we're doing at AO to encourage diversity as an employer.

How will we use the data?

After we've collated the data, we'll look at the patterns to assess if we are inclusive at each stage. If it turns out that we aren't, then the data may help us identify where we can improve.

The data will never have any bearing on whether an application is successful or not and will not be available to hiring managers at any stage.

How do you describe your gender identity?

How do you describe your ethnic background?

How do you like to describe your sexual identity or sexual orientation?

Do you identify as a person with a disability or are you a person with accessibility needs?

How would you describe your Neurodiversity?

If one of our AO'ers recommended this role to you, please tick the box

By ticking, this means you are giving us your permission to keep in touch with you over the next 12 months using the information you have submitted. We will share content with you every now and then about AO and update you on relevant job opportunities. To opt out at any point, please email careers@ao.com
