Hales Group are happy to be working on behalf of their client, to assist them with their search for a Mechanical and Electrical CAD Designer. Experience within the fire protection industry would be beneficial, but experience in a manufacturing environment will be considered.

Hours:

Monday to Friday

Salary:

£25,000 - £30,000 Per annum

Job Purpose:

The Mechanical and Electrical CAD Technician is responsible for producing accurate and compliant designs for fire alarm and fire suppression systems, supporting the wider engineering and project delivery teams. This role plays a key part in ensuring that all life safety system designs meet relevant standards, integrate effectively with building fire strategies, and are delivered to a high technical standard. The Mechanical and Electrical CAD Technician will contribute to estimating, tendering, and project delivery by providing technical input and producing detailed design documentation.

Duties Include:

Work with the sales department to generate accurate, high quality CAD drawings to relevant specifications and approved standards, to be used for the quotation of products for a wide variety of building types and functions.
Work with colleagues and clients, attend site meetings as needed, to ensure sign-off of design.
Generate competitive, reliable cost estimates and material requirements from approved drawings, and accurate costs associated with authorised amendments.
Liaise with the client and the sales department on all design concerns against the tender via a dedicated and recorded RFI and be proactive in identifying alternative high-quality materials suppliers.
Attend sites as required and undertake site surveys.
Ensure that drawing identification and version control is robustly maintained, and that drawing registers are updated with latest information for both internal and external document management systems.
Ensure designs are fully compliant with all applicable standards and system integrity is maintained with the production of in-depth hydraulic calculations.
Working with the Projects department, installation engineers, clients, and other contractors, produce accurate and coordinated designs to be used in the construction of the water mist system.
Other Responsibilities:

Flexibility to be able to work away from home on occasion for site visits.
You are required to complete all assigned training courses within timeframe allocated and be proactive in maintaining professional technical knowledge.
You are responsible for ensuring that all CSCS cards, similar scheme, or competency cards that you are required to hold are maintained.
Maintain good communications with clients and colleagues, responding in a timely manner to emails, text messages or phone calls, ensuring relevant information is passed on quickly and attend meetings as required with colleagues and clients.
Observe all company QHSE policies, procedures and other instructions and ensure all concerns observed or reported are submitted to the QHSE Compliance department.
Complete other tasks as necessary and directed to meet the needs of the company.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Good knowledge of water mist fire suppression systems and the wider fire prevention sector or demonstrates technical ability to successfully pass manufacturer courses.
Experience in similar CAD Design and Estimating roles and holds relevant qualification in CAD design.
Holds training certification in BS5839, BS8489, BS8458 or demonstrates capability to successfully achieve certification.
Knowledge of electrical systems would be an advantage.
Knowledge of basic construction practices and a familiarity of BIM L2 and the RIBA stages.
Ability to communicate at a technical level with customers and maintain good relationships.
In addition to core CAD software expertise will be required to be competent in Microsoft applications and be able to work with client specific software as required.
Construction Scheme (CSCS) Card - Have passed, or able to pass the CSCS Health & Safety Test and holds a relevant CSCS card to permit client site access.
