Location: Dual site focus: Kelloholm (DG4 6RB) & Prestwick (KA9 2NS), Scotland. Occasional travel to other group locations.

We are looking for an experienced Group Health and Safety Manager to spearhead our commitment to a Zero Harm culture. This role is a pivotal appointment, reporting directly to the Managing Director of Browns Manufacturing Ltd. You won't just set the strategy; you'll be on the floor, engaging with our teams and site Health and Safety Managers, and actively driving compliance and positive change mainly across our two largest production hubs in Kelloholm and Prestwick and other smaller sites in the group.
Key Responsibilities and Strategic Focus
This role is responsible for the strategic planning and operational management of Health & Safety, Compliance, and Corporate Risk across the Group.
1. Leadership, Strategy & Culture
* Develop and Lead: Define the long-term Browns Food Group Health & Safety Strategy, including the compilation of robust Group Policies, Standards, Protocols, and Guidance.
* Group Authority: Act as the Group Lead for the Health, Safety, Risk & Compliance functions, ensuring the company's vision and safety values are integrated into all operations.
* Hands-On Support: Proactively collaborate with site management teams and site Health & Safety Managers to achieve and maintain the highest safety standards through positive engagement and excellent communication.
2. Risk, Compliance & Assurance
* Risk Management: Instrumental in managing corporate risk through structured identification of risks, root causes, existing controls, and planned measures for continuous improvement.
* Incident Management: Oversee the effective reporting and detailed investigation of all accidents, incidents, and high-risk occurrences to prevent recurrence.
* Standardisation: Ensure a consistent approach in the format, quality, and standards of Work Instructions across all group locations.
* Property & Insurance: Define and develop the Group's Insurance Strategy, managing Property Risk protocols and liaising with brokers to provide support for Claims Defensibility.
* Inspection Management: Manage the Group Property Inspection programme, ensuring the timely completion of all required remedial actions.
3. Development & Mentorship
* Team Growth: Develop and mentor the site Health & Safety team to achieve professional qualifications and membership of relevant professional bodies.
* Training Excellence: Define and develop specialised H&S training across the Group to ensure Managers and staff are adequately prepared to manage key risk areas.
* Competency Building: The ability to train and mentor supervision and management in developing their IOSH qualifications (Managing Safely, etc.) is essential.
What We Are Looking For
* Essential: A recognised professional qualification such as NEBOSH National Diploma or IOSH Chartered/Graduate (or equivalent). We require a minimum of a NEBOSH or IOSH qualification.
* Desired: An Environmental Certificate (e.g., NEBOSH Environmental Certificate) is highly desirable.
* Experience: Significant experience in a Group or Senior H&S role, preferably within the fast-paced Food Manufacturing or FMCG environment, overseeing multiple sites.
* Skills: Proven ability to define and execute H&S strategy, coupled with a genuine hands-on approach to implementation and mentoring.
* Cultural Fit: An excellent communicator with the ability to influence and inspire a positive, disciplined H&S culture across all levels of the organisation.
