Assistant Project Manager – Road Maintenance (Client Side) Location A13 Corridor (London/Essex area) Role Overview We are looking for an Assistant Project Manager to join a major highways programme, supporting the delivery of road maintenance and improvement works along the A13. This is a client-side position, providing oversight and coordination of large-scale infrastructure projects delivered under the NEC3 contract framework. The role requires someone with a strong background in major civil engineering projects, ideally with exposure to both design coordination and construction delivery, and the ability to work effectively with principal contractors and multidisciplinary teams. Key Responsibilities Support the Project Manager in the planning and delivery of road maintenance and upgrade schemes Act as a client-side representative, ensuring contractors meet programme, quality, and safety requirements Oversee compliance with NEC3 contractual obligations, including change management and reporting Assist in reviewing and coordinating design packages, ensuring technical solutions are practical and cost-effective Monitor site progress, identify risks, and contribute to mitigation strategies Prepare and maintain project documentation, reports, and stakeholder updates Liaise with internal teams, external consultants, and contractors to ensure smooth project delivery Contribute to health, safety, and environmental management across all works Support budget tracking, forecasting, and value-for-money assessments Experience & Skills Required Proven experience in major infrastructure or highways projects Strong knowledge of NEC3 contracts and client-side project delivery Background in design coordination within civil engineering or highways Experience working with principal contractors on large-scale projects Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills Strong organisational ability with attention to detail Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline (preferred) Salary / Day Rate Contract role, outside IR35 potential Why This Role?
