Environmental Manager
Location: Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).
Role Responsibilities
* Provide environmental advice and support across all relevant topics (e.g., ecology, archaeology, water, noise, waste, air quality, soils) and ensure compliance with HS2, legal requirements, EMRs, and U&As.
* Coordinate with core environmental specialists, Sub‑Lot teams, subcontractors, and Enabling Works to embed environmental requirements, gather key information, and facilitate necessary assessments and documentation.
* Raise awareness of environmental issues, identify and support training needs, and promote continuous improvement in sustainability and Zero Harm practices.
* Lead or support the investigation of environmental incidents and non‑conformances, ensuring lessons learned are communicated across the project.
* Support consent and compliance activities by monitoring issues, contributing to documentation (e.g., Dust/Noise/Vibration assessments), and collaborating with all relevant parties to meet environmental obligations.
* 5–10 years’ experience on large‑scale linear projects (e.g., rail or highways), with substantial involvement in environmental design, mitigation, and third‑party impact considerations.
* Strong background gained with a consulting engineer, main civil engineering contractor, or specialist environmental contractor.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, high computer literacy, and the confidence to challenge designs produced by others.
* Advantageous to hold qualifications in an environmental or related discipline, with membership of a relevant professional body beneficial.
* A valid CSCS card for site access is desirable.
