Their team is collaborative, forward-thinking, andmitted to delivering high‑quality ecological advice to help clients meet legislative and planning requirements.
Your new roleAs an Assistant Ecologist, you will support senior team members in delivering ecological surveys, assessments, and reporting. Your work will include assisting with habitat surveys, protected species surveys, desk studies, and biodiversity assessments. You will also help prepare ecological reports, undertake GIS mapping, manage survey equipment, and contribute to ecological inputs on projects across a varied portfolio. Fieldwork will be a key part of the role, including early mornings, evenings, and occasional overnight stays.
What you'll need to succeed
1. A degree in ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline
2. A good understanding of UK ecology, protected species legislation, and relevant planning policies
3. Willingness to undertake outdoor fieldwork in varied conditions and unsociable hours
4. Strong writtenmunication and attention to detail
5. Good organisational and time‑management skills
6. A full UK driving licence
Desirable:
7. Experience (professional, volunteer, or academic) undertaking ecological surveys
8. Basic knowledge of GIS (, QGIS or ArcGIS)
9. Exposure to Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments
10. Entry-level protected species licence(s) or working towards them
11. Eligibility for CIEEM membership
