Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced and technically skilled Web Developer to join our Marketing and Communications team. As the College's in‑house web development specialist, you will lead on the front‑end development, maintenance and optimisation of the College's portfolio of websites and digital platforms, including the flagship Newham College London website, Fashion and Textiles Museum and LCIoT. You will play a key role in ensuring all websites deliver an excellent user experience, meet accessibility standards and support learner recruitment, engagement and wider organisational priorities. The role also acts as the primary technical liaison with external web agencies and digital partners. The role is offered on a full‑time basis, 36 hours per week, over 5 days based at East Ham, with regular travel to other campuses where required.
Responsibilities
* Manage and maintain the College's portfolio of WordPress websites and digital platforms
* Develop, modify and optimise responsive front‑end code using HTML, CSS and JavaScript
* Ensure websites meet high standards for UX, accessibility and technical performance
* Maintain WordPress themes, plugins, updates and platform stability
* Support technical SEO, analytics implementation and CRM integration
* Develop landing pages and digital assets to support campaigns and recruitment activity
* Conduct testing, quality assurance and accessibility checks across web platforms
* Support internal platforms including the College intranet and VLE
* Work closely with external web agencies and digital partners on technical delivery
* Provide guidance and support to colleagues on CMS usage and digital best practice
* Monitor website performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
Qualifications
* Extensive experience in front‑end web development and WordPress management
* Strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/jQuery and responsive design principles
* Experience managing and maintaining multiple websites concurrently
* Knowledge of technical SEO, analytics and marketing automation integration
* Understanding of accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1+
* Strong problem‑solving and debugging capability
* Experience working with external agencies and technical partners
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across teams
* Experience with version control systems and modern development practices
