Role Purpose
We are looking for candidates who would like to work full time but if we cannot recruit to all full-time positions, we will consider those who would like part-time opportunities – please state on your application if you wished to be considered for part‑time roles.
We are recruiting a permanent HGV cover driver. You will join a busy, skilled, and supportive local team delivering a critical public service.
The role involves driving a mixture of vehicles on a variety of routes around the region. Main duty driving, also empty bins, bag and bin deliveries, loading during low service periods. You will work with crew, help others meet frontline duties.
Full induction, vehicle familiarisation, relevant training before introduction to Waste Collection Routes.
Health & Safety is main priority; driver will meet challenges of Waste Collections across Scottish Borders safely and progressively.
Location: Hawick.
If you travel to another base to start work and this is further than your standard base you will be compensated for both travel time and mileage.
Essential
* Good standard of education, numeracy & literacy.
* Minimum LGV Class 2 licence + Digital licence & full CPC card (35hrs completed). Consideration will be given to candidates needing to complete CPC.
* A current driving licence is essential.
* Disability: Council will make reasonable adjustments to accommodate drivers with disability provided responsibilities can be met.
