Job Summary

UHP currently employs 6 FTE Interventional Neuroradiology consultants to deliver Mechanical Thrombectomy. The service is expanding to deliver a mechanical thrombectomy service and 24‑hour service for stroke.

This post will replace the 6th interventional neuroradiology consultant and requires a full range of skills in complex aneurysm work and mechanical thrombectomy, as part of a team of 6 consultants who perform a full range of INR treatments, diagnostic neuroradiology on call and reporting.


Responsibilities

Post-holders are expected to cover diagnostic neuroradiology services including inpatient cover, reporting and clinical meetings, and be a full member of the interventional neuroradiology team, including on‑call duties.

Post-holders will perform a comprehensive range of interventional neuroradiology procedures, including mechanical thrombectomy for acute stroke.

The team will share responsibility for providing a comprehensive diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology service.

Post-holders are expected to be actively involved in teaching for the Peninsula Medical School and Peninsula Radiology Training Programme.

Post-holders will comply with Trust Policies regarding job planning, appraisal and leave, aligned with departmental and Trust objectives.

Successful candidates will participate in delivering 7‑day mechanical thrombectomy and intracranial aneurysm treatment services.

The directorate supports research interests, with an expectation to participate in audit and clinical governance.

Education and Qualifications


Essential

* Full GMC Registration
* Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists
* CCT in Radiology and entry on the Specialist Register


Desirable

* MD, PhD or other postgraduate degree


Skills and Experience


Essential

* Clinical training and experience equivalent to requirement for gaining UK CCT in radiology
* Further sub‑specialist training in diagnostic and interventional radiology
* Experience in interventional neuroradiology procedures including stroke thrombectomy
* Experience in adult neuroimaging
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on full range of both emergency and routine neuroradiological situations
* Ability to supervise radiology specialty trainees across a broad range of neuroimaging
* Able to participate in interventional neuroradiology on‑call rota


Desirable

* Experience in vertebral augmentation procedures and spinal biopsies
* Experience in brain and spinal AVM treatments
* Experience in spectroscopy, functional imaging and other advanced neuroimaging techniques


Research and Clinical Audit


Essential

* Ability to apply evidence‑based approach to management of clinical problems
* Evidence of completed audit projects


Desirable

* Completion of clinical research
* Publications in peer‑reviewed journals
* Ability to undertake basic science research
* Ability to lead research team
* Previous success in grant applications to national funding bodies


Teaching


Essential

* Ability to teach clinical and practical skills


Desirable

* Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduate and postgraduate students
* Ability to supervise postgraduate research


Communication and Interpersonal Skills


Essential

* Well presented CV
* Ability to communicate well with patients and staff, both orally and in writing
