PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £44,000 - £53,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
You will create, control and shape news content for online and audio for our audiences in North Yorkshire. The successful applicant will be key to delivering creative excellence to an audience of more than a million users each week. Your experience in news will help motivate and develop a team of reporters and newsreaders to produce exceptional output across multiple platforms.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
* Creative and consistent management of content across primarily online and audio, as well as working closely with colleagues in TV and social media to help stories find their widest audience.
* Manage and support reporters and newsreaders to create compelling stories on the BBC website and Radio York – as well as overseeing the creation of material which can be used by regional and national TV output.
* Attend and chair meetings to solicit, develop and deliver content both locally and regionally.
* Plan and run an effective diary which delivers a regular flow of exclusive stories.
* Help colleagues in the wider audio newsroom and act as part of a site-wide management team to develop all staff.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* You should be an experienced news journalist with an ability to discern what stories will work and how.
* Experience of both online and audio would be advantage but a solid news grounding is essential.
* You should have an ability to communicate clearly at all levels and be able to offer guidance in storytelling and through constructive feedback.
* You should be able to display a detailed approach to planning and journalistic rigour in story choice and treatment.
* You will be able to demonstrate an ability to deliver a vision at a strategic level and adhere to wider business aims while delivering professional people management.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
* Substantial news experience showcasing developed judgement.
* Ability and understanding to deliver news online and for audio.
* A methodical and detailed approach to managing a news diary while being able to deliver short-term needs.
* Some people management experience highlighting an ability to deliver wider strategic aims through clear communication.
* A solid knowledge of North Yorkshire’s wider news landscape.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED
* Ability to use BBC story creation tools – i.e. Optimo, Dira, Open Media, Jupiter etc.
* Ability to think quickly and change priorities with composure.
* A commitment to develop yourself and those around you.
