Senior Grounds Supervisor

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Senior Grounds Supervisor to lead the delivery of high-quality grounds maintenance across a large, prestigious and diverse estate. The Role
As Senior Grounds Supervisor, you will take responsibility for maintaining designated grounds and gardens to an exceptional standard, ensuring that all users enjoy a safe and welcoming environment. You will work closely with the Grounds Maintenance Manager, supporting the planning and delivery of both day-to-day operations and longer-term projects, including sustainability and biodiversity initiatives.
This is a practical, hands-on role where you will lead by example—working alongside your team while supervising and guiding their activities.
Key Responsibilities
Grounds Maintenance

Maintain grounds and gardens to a consistently high standard across allocated areas
*
Carry out a full range of horticultural duties including mowing, hedge cutting, planting, weeding, spraying, and border maintenance
*
Support planning of maintenance schedules, plant care, and seasonal activities
*
Identify equipment needs, arrange servicing, and report issues affecting grounds or machinery
*
Assist with tree inspections and site safety checks, particularly following severe weather
*
Contribute to sustainability and biodiversity projects
*
Deliver training and share knowledge with team members, including trainees and temporary staff
*
Collaborate with colleagues to minimise disruption and ensure effective communication across the estate
*
Provide support to wider facilities teams where required
Team Leadership & Supervision
*
Supervise and support a team of supervisors, operatives, and trainees
*
Organise and allocate workloads, adjusting priorities in response to weather and operational needs
*
Set clear standards, providing guidance, coaching, and performance oversight
*
Monitor attendance and support team development
*
Ensure safe storage and proper use of tools and equipment
*
Maintain a safe and secure working environment, reporting hazards and incidents promptly
*
Step up to lead in the absence of senior management when required
About You
*
Proven experience in grounds maintenance and horticulture
*
Demonstrable experience supervising or leading teams
*
Strong practical skills and a willingness to work hands-on
*
Good knowledge of plant care, seasonal maintenance, and grounds management practices
*
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and weather conditions
*
Confident communicator with the ability to train and support others
*
A proactive approach to safety, organisation, and problem-solving
