22 month fixed term contract or Secondment

Salary up to £31,092 per annum depending on experience.

Location Hanningfield, Essex (travel will be required across our Essex and Suffolk Water operational areas)

About the role

Are you passionate about the environment and love to be out and about? We're looking for a Catchment Monitoring Advisor to work within our Environment & Sustainability team to undertake catchment monitoring and gather catchment data and evidence in our Essex & Suffolk water region.

Your work will primarily be field based, involving tasks such as collecting river samples, conducting catchment walkovers and surveys, gathering information on water quality issues and problems and managing monitoring equipment, to investigate and gather evidence for mitigation actions which could be undertaken, helping us help us meet our regulatory obligations under the Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) and commitments in the NWG Environment Strategy.

Your work will also involve meeting with internal stakeholders and potentially with external partners, discussing catchment issues and sharing findings to inform catchment improvements. Additionally, you may need to interact with members of the public during your fieldwork.

Lone working may be required, but you will be supported by our team of Catchment Monitoring advisors currently working in the North East, and by the team of wider environmental experts in Environment & Sustainability based in our ESW region.

About you

If you have a keen interest in improving the environment and rivers, along with a questioning mindset and love being outdoors, then we want to hear from you.

You should be comfortable to work outside in all weather conditions, including in remote areas, and you'll enjoy working as part of a team.

We need you to be proactive in managing your own workload. The role will involve travelling around Essex & Suffolk Water's operating area, so you'll need a full driving licence.

You should be IT literate and familiar with Microsoft Office packages, as some reporting and written communication will be part of this role.

While prior experience in the environment and an understanding of environmental monitoring is beneficial, full training will be provided.
