Offer description

The Role

The Department of Medicine for Older Adults at University Hospital Monklands (UHM) is a dynamic one with the team having a significant track record in driving forward service change and quality improvement. The Department has four dedicated in-patient wards.

This is an excellent opportunity to join Ward 21, UHM’s Stroke Unit, as a Charge Nurse. Ward 21 is a 19 bedded integrated stroke unit, providing both hyper acute care and rehabilitation.

You would be joining a multi-disciplinary team that is dedicated to providing the highest levels of quality patient care within a stroke setting, including developing links with the Stroke Managed Clinical Network. Working as a core member of the wider team, alongside a second Charge Nurse and Specialist Stroke Nurses, you will support the Senior Charge Nurse in the delivery of patient care and standards within the ward. You will have responsibility for the assessment of care needs and the evaluation and development of care plans required to facilitate patient rehabilitation, and to ensure the continued delivery of high quality care to all patients.

The successful candidate will direct, coordinate and supervise, as appropriate, the work of other staff within the ward to promote best practice in relation to patient care, and in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse, you will have the opportunity to provide cover to ensure the effective running of the ward.

You will be given training in how to perform an NIHSS assessment, the standardized tool used to assess the severity of neurological deficits resulting from stroke, and will also be given full training on Stroke Thrombolysis and Thrombectomy.

There are also excellent opportunities for service development within the department and opportunity to take part in stroke clinical research.

We very much welcome you getting in touch if you have any questions, or need any further information.
