Overview

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Lead Orthopaedic Practitioner to join our busy Trauma and Orthopaedic Department. This is a key leadership role, working closely with both the orthopaedic and clinic teams to provide strong leadership, effective unit management, and support the development of staff across the service. The post holder will work as a Lead Orthopaedic Technician within a skilled team delivering high-quality services across Trauma and Orthopaedics, the Emergency Department, Urgent Treatment Centre, Wards, Theatres, and other departments within the Trust.


Responsibilities

* Lead the orthopaedic wards, outpatients, fracture clinics, and the plaster room, ensuring care is delivered in line with Trust policy and the highest professional standards.
* Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care to ensure patients receive excellent, safe, and compassionate treatment.
* Provide oversight of the Plaster Room service, lead on clinical care delivery, support clinical governance and patient experience initiatives, and champion workforce development and education.
* Provide kind, skilled, and expert leadership; inspire and empower others; drive continuous improvements in practice; supervise and teach nursing and non-nursing colleagues; act as a positive clinical role model.
* Work with direct and indirect patient care across Fracture, Orthopaedic, and Paediatric Clinics, as well as supporting care in Wards, Theatres, and other areas as required.
* Act as a specialist resource, offering expert guidance, advice, and education to the multidisciplinary team in relation to your specialist area.
* In partnership with Clinical Leads, provide leadership and coordination for the Plaster Room service, planning, delivering, evaluating services, and driving quality and efficiency improvements.
* Lead teaching, supervision, and appraisal of peers and junior colleagues (Bands 4–6), and promote professional development within the team.
* Contribute to ongoing service development, promoting innovation, and reviewing/adapting policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines to ensure evidence-based practice.


Qualifications and Experience

* Experience at Band 7 leadership level in orthopaedics or a closely related setting.
* Ability to act as a specialist resource with the MDT, providing guidance and education in the specialist area.
* Experience in workforce development, teaching, supervision, and appraisal of peers and junior staff.
* Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care and continuous service improvement.


About the Trust and Services

We operate from two main sites – King George Hospital (KGH) in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford, with two busy emergency departments serving a population of over 330,000 per year. We are developing electronic patient records to transform staff workflows and patient care. The Trust is expanding with new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in KGH and has been shortlisted for Trust of the Year at the Health Service Journal Awards. The majority of our 8,000 staff come from diverse backgrounds and we are a London Living Wage employer. CDCs open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week provide additional services with substantial activity and impact.
