We’re supporting a well-established Portsmouth-based manufacturer specialising in high-quality electrical and electronic components supplied to global markets including aerospace, medical, industrial, automotive and defence. With continued investment in R&D, design tools and testing facilities, this is an exciting time to join the Product Design team.
What’s the role all about?
As a Design Engineer, you’ll work within the Product Design & Development team, contributing to the design and development of new and existing products from initial concept through to production launch.
You’ll play a key role in expanding the product portfolio, working closely with Sales, Manufacturing, Quality and other internal teams to deliver high-quality, compliant and commercially successful designs.
Your responsibilities will include:
Producing 3D CAD models and detailed technical drawings for manufacture and customers
Supporting Sales with technical input and product knowledge
Working to global engineering standards and EN9100 requirements
Leading or contributing to DFMEA activities to identify and mitigate design risks
Coordinating product development activities across cross-functional teams
Planning and managing daily design tasks to meet project deadlines and KPIs
Checking drawings and customer documentation for accuracy and completeness
Managing document and drawing updates to maintain workload balance
Supporting continuous improvement across design processes and standards
This is a hands-on design role where you’ll have real influence over how products are developed and launched.
What you’ll need
To be successful as a Design Engineer, you’ll bring:
Degree-level qualification (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical or Electronic Engineering
Experience using Creo Parametric or SolidWorks (FEA experience beneficial)
Good understanding of engineering tolerancing and quality procedures
Strong communication skills and confidence working cross-functionally
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
A structured, organised approach with good attention to detail
Willingness to learn about production processes and design standardisation
