Estimator (Main Contractor) | Permanent | Norfolk Position: Estimator Job term: Full-time, permanent Salary details: £50,000 - £65,000 DoE Package Location: Norwich (Office Based) Recruiter: Prime Placement Overview Prime Placement is excited to partner with a well-established and reputable regional main contractor. Our client has a strong track record of delivering high-quality construction projects across various sectors, including residential, commercial, and public works. They are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Pre-Construction Estimator to join their dynamic team and play a key role in securing new business opportunities and contribute to their continued success. Job description As a Pre-Construction Estimator, you will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs of construction projects from initial concept through to final tender submission. You will work closely with the pre-construction team, including surveyors, planners, and design managers, to ensure accurate and competitive bids. Your ability to analyse project documentation, understand market conditions, and produce detailed cost estimates will be crucial to securing new business. Key Responsibilities: * Cost Estimation: * Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates from tender documentation, including drawings, specifications, and schedules. * Analyse and interpret tender information to identify potential risks and opportunities. * Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations, ensuring best value for the project. * Develop comprehensive bills of quantities and schedule of rates. * Produce detailed cost breakdowns and reports for internal review and client submission. * Tender Management: * Contribute to the development of tender strategies and methodologies. * Assist in the preparation and review of tender documents, including bills of quantities, specifications, and schedules. * Negotiate and agree on tender terms with subcontractors and suppliers. * Ensure all tender submissions comply with company standards and contractual obligations. * Attend site visits and pre-tender meetings as required. * Ensure compliance with company procedures and industry best practices. * Work to tight deadlines. * Procurement: * Assist in the preparation and issuance of tender inquiries and pre-qualification questionnaires. * Evaluate and analyse tender submissions, providing recommendations for contractor selection. * Support the procurement of materials and services, ensuring best value for money. * Risk Management: * Identify and assess potential project risks during the tendering process, developing mitigation strategies. * Ensure all activities comply with relevant legislation and industry standards. * Relationship Management: * Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients. * Collaborate effectively with internal teams, including design, construction, and commercial departments. * Provide feedback to the design team regarding value engineering. * Market Analysis: * Stay up-to-date with current market trends, material costs, and labour rates. * Conduct market research to identify potential cost savings and efficiency improvements. Experience, Qualifications, Technical Requirements Essential Requirements: • Proven experience as an Estimator within a main contracting environment in the UK. • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations. • Excellent analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical • drawings and specifications. • Proficiency in estimating software and cost management tools. • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Strong attention to detail and accuracy. • Experience working for a Main Contractor with project values between £1m-35m. • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. • Valid UK Driving licence. • Right to work in the UK. Desirable Requirements: • Relevant construction-related qualifications (e.g., HNC/HND, degree). • Experience in a variety of construction sectors. • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIOB, RICS). • Knowledge of local suppliers and subcontractors in the Norwich area.
