Paediatric Specialist Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Paediatric Asthma and Allergy Specialist Nurse Team at Northumbria for a Band 6 Asthma Nurse to join our service.
The post holder will be expected to deliver specialist nursing care to a defined caseload of patients diagnosed with asthma and allergies. This will include taking responsibility for a specialist group of patients with complex clinical and social needs supported by the band 7 Asthma and Allergy Nurse lead and Paediatric Consultants.
Where this role will be predominantly developing, improving and leading on Paediatric Asthma Services here at Northumbria, the post holder will be expected to have some understanding and insight into the allergy side of the service. At times they will be required to support with the allergy workload and provide cross cover in the absence of the Band 6 Allergy Nurse.
The post holder will assist the development of pathways and treatment plans for children with asthma and allergy.
They will co‑coordinate transition services for young people including liaising with the adult services in order to establish transitional clinics.
They will provide education and training for patients and their families/carers as well as other healthcare professionals such as school and acute paediatric nurses who are looking after children with asthma, viral‑induced wheeze and allergies, etc.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have professional responsibility for a caseload of child within Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHCFT) care may be delivered both in the acute environment and within the community setting.
The post holder will have knowledge and specialist training within managing asthma and allergies in paediatric patients, ensuring the highest standard of personalised nursing care is delivered to patients and their families in partnership with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team.
To have responsibility for the supervision and assessment of care needs relating to paediatric asthma and allergies and the delivery and maintenance of optimal care outcomes and will provide professional and clinical care advice to patients, carers and the multi‑disciplinary team.
The post holder is expected to motivate staff to provide high standards of care by acting as a role model for others.

Qualifications & Professional Registration
* Registered Sick Children’s Nurse (RSCN), RN Child
* Degree in Child Health Nursing or equivalent qualified experience supplemented by a post‑graduate diploma or additional demonstrable equivalent experience at diploma level.
* Evidence of qualification to undertake the supervision, teaching and assessing of students (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period).
* Relevant clinical course specific to specialist area or willingness to undertake within the first 12 months of being in post
* Evidence of qualification to undertake the supervision, teaching and assessing of students (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period unless post is bank only).
* Qualification in Physical Assessment Skills
Experience & Knowledge
* Recent post registration experience working within Paediatrics
* Some prior knowledge and experience in managing specific disease/chronic condition related to post
* IM&T skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
* Community experience
* Participation in local audit or QI projects
Skills & Abilities
* Counselling skills
* Advanced counselling skills
* Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods
* Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools.
