Shorterm group are currently looking for a manufacturing engineer to join our aircraft landing gear MRO company based in Hayes. The Role Reporting to the Technical Process Manager, you will provide hands-on manufacturing engineering support across production operations. You'll focus on developing and improving work instructions, tooling documentation, process controls, and maintenance coordination - while driving continuous improvement across the shop floor. This is a varied role combining office-based engineering work with significant time spent in the production environment. Key Responsibilities Create and maintain manufacturing work instructions and tooling documentation Define critical checks and inspection regimes based on tooling and process designs Support production teams in resolving defects and non-conformities Lead and support structured problem-solving activities (5 Whys, 8D, root cause analysis) Analyse production data including downtime, cycle times, OEE, waste and machine availability Drive continuous improvement initiatives using tools such as Pareto analysis and DMAIC Identify process waste and implement efficiency improvements Conduct time and motion studies, workflow analysis, line balancing and capacity analysis Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair activities Develop and maintain tooling and equipment master data within SAP / ERP systems Support automation initiatives to improve consistency, reduce cycle times and optimise processes Ensure compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety standards Experience Minimum 1-2 years experience. Proven track record in delivering measurable process improvements Hands-on experience using structured problem-solving methods Experience applying Lean tools such as Pareto analysis, DMAIC and OEE Experience within metal component processing or surface finishing (aerospace highly desirable) Technical Skills Ability to read engineering drawings and understand mechanical manufacturing processes Experience creating detailed manufacturing work instructions Strong analytical mindset with KPI-driven decision making CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred) Good understanding of ERP/MRP systems (SAP advantageous) Confident using digital tools to improve data collection and process performance Qualifications Minimum HND in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline) Lean / Continuous Improvement or Statistical Process Control training advantageous Personal Attributes Strong communicator - able to explain technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical teams Collaborative team player comfortable working in a matrix environment Analytical, organised and solutions-focused Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing setting If you feel your are suitable please apply now or contact Callum Withey at Shorterm group for more information
