The health visitor is responsible for a defined caseload of pre-school children and families within a geographic area or General Practice population.

The main purpose of the job includes the assessment of health needs, the implementation and evaluation of health-enhancing activities, and the generation of information that can be utilised to influence policies affecting health.

Practitioners have the freedom to act within parameters guided by local and national policies, protocols, and the Code of Conduct.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable, meaning speaking and listening at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2). Fluency is not required. Level 3 indicates the ability to have basic conversations with patients about their health. For more information, see the ‘Croeso Candidate’ booklet below.

Using own initiative and working with the deputy senior and senior nurse, develop innovative ways of working, implement change effectively, and monitor outcomes.

Ensure the delivery of innovative, clinically excellent, evidence-based child health surveillance, health promotion, and other public health initiatives.

Plan, deliver, and evaluate health visiting interventions working with statutory and voluntary agencies.

Work as part of the team and assist the deputy senior nurse, collaborating with other health visitors within the University Health Board to ensure the delivery of equitable, high-quality services.

Communicate information sensitively when dealing with issues that are sensitive and contentious.

Work collaboratively and maintain effective communication with health and other professionals to ensure high-quality preventative health services, including primary care, local authority, and other partners.

Maintain effective internal and external networks through communication with multi-agency teams, statutory, and voluntary agencies to enhance service delivery.

Actively collaborate with partner agencies to support and develop the public health approach, including participation in community development and establishing links within the Local University Health Board, Health Promotion, National Public Health Service, and other local projects.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is part of NHS Wales, providing primary, secondary, and community health and wellbeing services to around 450,000 residents across Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, and Rhondda Cynon Taf.
