A child and young person's ISVA will have specialist skills in supporting children and young people who have been affected by sexual abuse/trauma. When children and young people disclose sexual abuse they often say they feel confused and worried about what is going to happen next. The CISVA aims to work alongside children, young people and their families to support and advise them as the investigation takes place.
Main duties of the job
* Offer one to one support and advice throughout the investigation - from attendance at the SARC to the end of the investigation or court process.
* Work with children, young people and families to develop support plans and promote safety
* Provide explanations of the investigation process and the criminal justice system
* Act as a liaison person between families and agencies such as the police, education, CPS, Social Care, Youth Support Service, GUM services and the Witness Service
* Help identify other avenues of support
* Signpost and refer individual or group therapy through STARS as appropriate

Job description
Job responsibilities
* Manage caseload and maintain necessary case files and records including monitoring information as required under Home Office Regulations and SABP/Care UK
* To carry out research and produce statistics for evaluation and monitoring of the ISVA role.
* Follow procedures and protocols with other services so the safety of the children and young people is kept central to any process.
* Note and feed back to other agencies any consistent difficulties children and young people are having accessing their service. To keep up to date information about appropriate and useful services to support children and young people who have a range of complex support needs.
* Undertake risk assessment and support needs analysis with children and young people, then develop a plan for the children and young people
* Develop and maintain effective communication systems with key partners, e.g. Police, CPS, Court Service, Education, Primary Care trust (mental and sexual health), Victim Support, Witness Service, Voluntary Sector organisations
* To undertake regular Clinical Supervision
* To Attend SARC as requested
* To undertake personal and professional development opportunities that are relevant to this role.
