Overview
Packaging Helper - OW - Line 2B, 7:15am - 7:45pm. Removes all finished bakery products off the packaging conveyors and packs them into plastic baskets or corrugated master cases.
Responsibilities
* Picks up bakery products and places them in cases or trays.
* Observes conveyors and packaging machine operation to prevent jams, dislodges jams while following all safety procedures.
* Removes filled cases from the discharge end of the tape machine, placing them on pallets and conveyors.
* Inspects products for damage or conformity to specifications prior to packing into master cases. Transports completed pallets to the storage area.
* Breaks up and stages case dividers. Supplies empty cases to other packaging helpers.
* Keeps work area clean and orderly by sweeping floors, wiping down equipment, and performing sanitation tasks.
* Sets tape machine to product and case specifications and passes cases through the machine and printing system after training.
* Monitors tape on cases to ensure all flaps are sealed accurately with tape in the middle.
* Monitors cases to ensure the barcode and lot number print accurately by the printing system.
* Repacks damaged cases on the line.
* Monitors tape levels and changes tape rolls when finished.
* Clears any jams on the conveyor.
* Reports case counts on count sheets for each product that passes through the tape machine.
* Operates material handling equipment to convey and store materials and finished goods.
* Reports equipment problems to the foreman and/or supervisor immediately.
* Supports training of new employees or employees changing job classifications.
* Participates in safety and health efforts, promotes safety, and follows procedures.
* Plans and carries out assignments without hazards to self or others; reports unsafe acts or conditions promptly.
* Helps maintain a safe work environment by adhering to safety procedures and reporting incidents timely.
Qualifications
* High school diploma or GED equivalent.
* One year of general warehouse/production work experience.
Skills/Experience
* Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English.
* Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English.
Physical and Work Environment
The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May require occasional operation of equipment or travel.
Shift-based position, may be scheduled for all shifts. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet/humid conditions, high or precarious places, fumes, or extreme cold. Noise level is usually high.
