Theatre Team Leader

We are looking to recruit a motivated and experienced Scrub Theatre Practitioner Team Leader who can scrub for procedures within many specialities.

In this role, you will lead and coordinate the theatre team to ensure smooth day-to-day theatre operations and effective theatre functioning and efficiency, while implementing effective communication and a positive working environment. Expectations to deliver a high standard of service with patient safety and quality are a priority.

You will also support the training and development of team members, helping to maintain high professional standards in line with our department policies and speciality requirements. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential, as is a commitment to delivering excellent patient care. You should be able to demonstrate effective team working and work to the highest standards of evidence-based practice. The Post Holder must act as an expert resource for all clinical staff and students and must effectively participate in the supervision, training, and support of learners in Theatre.

The post holder will participate as an integral member of the theatreteam giving leadership and guidance to other staff, maintaining high standards of practice and care. The post holder must work alongside our departments Theatre management team in supporting development, and implementing positive change, within our Theatre department.


Main duties of the job

* Act as a competent and confident clinical practitioner, providing expert guidance and support, ensuring that all clinical decisions are made with the highest standards of professionalism and patient safety.
* Deliver consistently high-quality, safe, and effective patient care in full compliance with Trust policies, departmental protocols, and standard operating procedures (SOPs), continuously monitoring and improving clinical outcomes.
* Take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the theatre, overseeing the safe and efficient coordination of operating lists, staffing, equipment, and other resources to maintain optimal theatre functionality and patient throughput.
* Deputise for the theatre coordinator as required, maintaining seamless service continuity and demonstrating leadership presence to uphold operational standards and support the wider theatre management team.
* Maintain current clinical competencies and knowledge through continuous professional development, enabling flexible and responsive working in accordance with the evolving needs of the service and Trust objectives.


About us

The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital comprises of nine Operating Theatres covering a range of Major and Day Case Surgery including Urology, Upper GI and Bariatric, Colo-Rectal, Orthopaedic Trauma, Vascular, Ophthalmology and Robotics. Additionally we run an Emergency CEPOD Theatre which runs 24 hours a day depending on the clinical needs of the department.

Together with our staff we have developed a set of values which form a framework for a positive and supportive environment for our patients, visitors, and staff. Person Specification


Qualifications

* RGN or reg. ODP
* Evidence of Continuing Professional development/qualifications


Experience and Knowledge

* Managerial ability
* High level clinical skills and knowledge.
* Evidence of co-ordinating, managing and leading the team in out of hours service delivery.
* Teaching ability
* Experience in undertaking preceptor/mentor role
* An awareness and understanding of department policy and practice
* Willingness to undertake mentorship course
* Involvement in Audit and Research.


Skills and Ability

* Ability to work and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team setting.
* Evidence of excellent communication skills including verbal, non verbal and written.
* Microsoft office PC. and EPR system skills


Personal Qualities

* Ability to act as a positive role model to other members of the team.
* Flexible and Adaptable in approach
