<div><h3>About the Role</h3><p>The Graduate Communications Coordinator will contribute to a range of communications activities within the University of Exeters Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The role supports external communication, media outreach for the Faculty’s research, placement of stories in the media, generation of content for social media channels, and support for staff and students in content creation. The coordinator will also manage a staff newsletter and provide communication support for events.</p><h3>Key Dates</h3><ul><li>Closing Date: 2/7/2026</li><li>Interview Date: 8/7/2026</li><li>Role Start Date: July 2026</li><li>Role End Date: July 2027</li></ul><h3>Salary</h3><p>£28,029 per annum</p><h3>Purpose of the Role</h3><p>The role involves creating visual and written communication assets for external and internal audiences and running key social media channels. It supports a wide range of communications around research areas such as dementia, diabetes and cancer, and helps tell student stories and enhance research impact regionally, nationally and internationally.</p><h3>Duties and Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Generate content for web pages and social media channels.</li><li>Create and source visual (images, video) and written content for communication channels.</li><li>Support academics and students in optimising content for faculty channels and social media activity.</li><li>Collect and source information from colleagues for media events and news stories.</li><li>Produce a regular staff newsletter.</li><li>Assist with event logistics and liaise with Faculty and External Engagement teams.</li><li>Work with colleagues to optimise communications to students, staff and external audiences, including through newsletters.</li><li>Collaborate with other key areas within Professional Services.</li><li>Deliver a high‑quality customer‑focused service.</li></ul><h3>Training and Development</h3><ul><li>In‑post training in social media, brand guidelines, media engagement, press release writing, and newsletter creation.</li><li>Encouraged to engage with national career development opportunities, such as the science communication network STEMPRA.</li><li>Access to the University’s wide range of learning and development resources.</li><li>Potential funding for additional external training and education opportunities based on skills, experience and need.</li></ul><h3>Support Available</h3><ul><li>Reports to the Head of External Communications for the Faculty.</li><li>Daily contact and mentorship, including in‑person sessions at least twice a week.</li><li>Support from the wider press office team and colleagues across External Engagement and Global.</li><li>Structured Professional Development Review and wellbeing support.</li></ul><h3>Benefits</h3><ul><li>Flexible/hybrid working.</li><li>Generous pension.</li><li>Holiday allowance of 39 days per year.</li><li>Totum Card (student discount).</li><li>Salary Exchange Schemes such as the Cycle to Work Scheme.</li><li>Discounted membership to university sports facilities.</li><li>Access to the university’s Career Mentor Scheme and career consultancy opportunities.</li><li>Access to an extensive suite of online training (Excel, presentation skills, negotiation skills).</li><li>Invitation to quarterly networking and professional development events through The Graduate Network.</li></ul><h3>Person Specification</h3><h3>Degree and Attainment</h3><ul><li>Degree level or higher, graduated from a UK university in the last 3 years.</li><li>Degree in communications or health and life sciences desirable but not essential.</li></ul><h3>Skills</h3><ul><li>Excellent written and oral communication skills, including copywriting.</li><li>Ability to shoot and edit video content.</li><li>Understanding of social media for communication and engagement.</li><li>Strong time‑management ability.</li></ul><h3>Personal Qualities and Attributes</h3><ul><li>Confident communicator who can network and develop contacts.</li><li>Organised and able to deliver on plan/deliverable deadlines.</li><li>Attention to detail, creative, and willingness to learn.</li><li>Team player capable of working autonomously when needed.</li><li>Self‑motivated and proactive in finding solutions.</li><li>Interest in communications and/or science communication.</li></ul><h3>Prior Experience</h3><ul><li>Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint.</li><li>Experience handling a complex workload with competing demands.</li><li>Experience in asset creation and editing (desirable).</li><li>Experience with WordPress (desirable).</li></ul><h3>Graduate Business Partnership (GBP) Scheme Requirements</h3><ul><li>Must have achieved or be in the final year of a UK‑based degree.</li><li>Graduate roles may allow reduced hours for undergraduate or postgraduate students to accommodate study commitments.</li><li>Role ends early if degree is not passed.</li><li>Must have graduated in the UK within the last 3 years.</li><li>Applicants must have permission to work in the UK and provide evidence prior to appointment.</li><li>All graduates must reside in the UK while undertaking the role.</li></ul><h3>EEO Statement</h3><p>The University of Exeter is committed to creating an inclusive culture and promotes equality of opportunity, values diversity and inclusivity, and supports equality of opportunity through a range of national and institutional initiatives.</p></div>
