Quality Engineer Steering — Location: Woking (Onsite) — Contract: Initial Contract 3 months — IR35 Status: Inside IR35
This is a great opportunity for a Quality Engineer Steering to support high-end automotive production by applying advanced quality analysis techniques within a fast-paced engineering environment. You will play a key role in driving manufacturing excellence through data-driven insights, structured problem-solving, and collaborative process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Analyse production quality issues using methodologies such as 4M, PPS, Fishbone, and 8D to identify root causes and define corrective actions.
* Coach general assembly (GA) operators to build vehicles to exacting quality standards and support improvements to build processes.
* Lead and support lean manufacturing activities focused on reducing waste, scrap, and rework.
* Generate clear, concise reports and visual data summaries using Microsoft Office tools to communicate key quality findings.
* Work cross-functionally with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to ensure swift resolution of quality concerns and implementation of preventive measures.
Skills & Experience Required
* Proven experience as a Quality Engineer Steering or in a similar quality engineering role in a vehicle assembly environment.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret quality data and perform structured root cause analysis.
* Hands-on knowledge of vehicle systems (e.g., powertrain, chassis, body, electrical) and technical assembly methods.
* Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma, FMEA (DFMEA, PFMEA), and practical problem-solving methodologies.
* Ability to document quality investigations and improvement initiatives clearly and effectively.
Technical Knowledge
* Understanding of quality frameworks and compliance standards in automotive manufacturing.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools; experience with CAD tools and other quality management software is beneficial.
* Solid grasp of process improvement, lean principles, and supplier quality interaction.
Qualifications
* Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Industrial, or Motorsport Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
* Certification in Lean Six Sigma, FMEA, or Practical Problem Solving preferred.
* Strong grounding in vehicle-based engineering and assembly practices.
