Production ManagerKettering, NorthamptonshireUp to £50,000 per annum (DOE)37.5 hours per weekAbout the CompanyA long-established and highly respected UK-based engineering and manufacturing organisation is seeking a Production Manager to join its specialist equipment division.The business designs and manufactures precision testing machinery used internationally across a range of industries. With a strong reputation for quality and innovation, the company supplies equipment to global customers and supply chains.Role OverviewThe Production Manager will take responsibility for end-to-end production operations, ensuring products are delivered on time, to quality standards, and in line with commercial objectives.This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a strong engineering background, proven production management experience, and the ability to balance operational delivery with commercial awareness.Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Planning & DeliveryOversee full delivery lifecycle from order intake through to installation, commissioning, and serviceDrive improvements in delivery performance and operational efficiencyLead cross-functional planning across engineering, production, procurement, and service teamsEnsure visibility of capacity, priorities, and risksProduction & Service ManagementManage team leads across:Design (mechanical, electrical, software/firmware)Production and assemblyElectrical build, calibration, and commissioningService and technical supportWarehousing and fulfilmentEnsure adherence to quality standards and operational processesMonitor and escalate issues relating to design, suppliers, production, or componentsCommercial & Financial AwarenessSupport achievement of financial targets through operational decision-makingIdentify and reduce inefficiencies and cost leakageCollaborate with sales and logistics teams to optimise margin and deliveryContribute to operational input for wider business strategyCustomer & Market SupportSupport development of service offerings, upgrades, and aftermarket servicesProvide technical input into marketing materials and product positioningWork closely with customer-facing teams to resolve issues efficientlyLeadership & DevelopmentLead, coach, and develop team leaders and operational staffFoster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and customer focusSupport training, skills development, and succession planningCommunicate effectively with internal and external stakeholdersContinuous Improvement & ComplianceDrive process improvements while maintaining operational efficiencyEnsure strong communication between departments (engineering, production, sales, quality, procurement)Support compliance with relevant machinery regulations and certification standards (e.g. CE/UKCA)Maintain audit readiness for quality and calibration processesCandidate RequirementsEssentialDegree or equivalent qualification in mechanical and/or electrical engineeringMinimum 5 years experience in a senior production or engineering leadership roleExperience managing both design and manufacturing teamsStrong planning, coordination, and problem-solving capabilitiesCommercial awareness (cost control, margins, customer impact)Experience with ERP systemsBackground in low-volume, high-value manufacturing environmentsKnowledge of machinery regulations (UK/EU/international)Right to work in the UKDesirableExperience with Microsoft Dynamics / Business Central ERPExposure to P&L accountabilityKnowledge of IoT or emerging technologiesExperience in precision capital equipment manufacturingInvolvement in business development or product marketingPersonal AttributesPractical and delivery-focused approachAble to balance technical, commercial, and people prioritiesCalm under pressure with strong prioritisation skillsProactive mindset with a continuous improvement approachStrong communication and stakeholder engagement skillsInterest in technology and innovationAmbition to progress into broader operational leadershipBenefits2530 days annual leave (service-based)Company pension schemeLife assuranceIncome protectionFlexible working hoursFree on-site parkingPotential for international travelRecruitment ProcessClosing date: 6 June 2026First stage interviews (Teams): 16 June 2026Final stage interviews (on-site): 24 June 2026Interested?
