GP Assistant at Sixways Clinic role at NHS
Working for Cheltenham Peripheral Primary Care Network (PCN), you will be based at one of our 5 GP Practices who collectively care for 54,000 patients. Our GP Practices wrap around the edge of Cheltenham town extending in the south from Leckhampton around to Bishops Cleeve and Winchcombe. The PCN is determined to meet the challenges of modern primary care by working innovatively and growing our multi-disciplinary team to provide a holistic approach to our patient population.
The PCN team already includes Social Prescribing Link Workers, Care Co-ordinators, Clinical Pharmacists, Physician Associates, Pharmacy Technicians and a Mental Health Nurse. The PCN is looking to recruit a team of innovative GP Assistants who will be deployed to work alongside the team in our busy practices. This is an exciting new role that is designed to support our GP's and the smooth running of clinics. Successful post holders will be supported to complete an accredited Health Education England training programme and achieve a formal certification.
Responsibilities
* A GP Assistant will support the GP(s) to ensure the smooth running of clinics by performing routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP, freeing up time for patient care.
* The main responsibilities and duties will be tailored based on level of skill and experience and may include all or some of the duties listed in the job description.
* Help develop the GP Assistant role within the practice to improve patient and staff experience in a busy clinic.
* May require use of clinical knowledge and administrative skills to enable a smoother, more efficient pathway.
* Experience and a strong desire to work in primary care is essential.
Job Description – Responsibilities
* Sort clinical post and prioritise actions for the GP; signpost to others such as clinical pharmacists where appropriate.
* Extract information from clinical letters that needs coding and add to patient notes.
* Arrange appointments, referrals, tests and follow-up appointments.
* Complete basic (non-interpretive) forms and core elements of forms for GP approval (e.g., insurance, mortgage, benefits forms).
* Explain treatment procedures to patients.
* Assist the GP in liaising with outside agencies (e.g., arranging on-call advice or admission while the GP continues other consultations).
* Maintain confidentiality in line with Practice policies.
Experience and Qualifications
Experience
* Essential: Experience of working in general practice/primary care.
* Essential: Administrative experience and good organisational skills.
* Essential: Knowledge of Clinical Coding.
* Desirable: Experience with System One or other Primary Care Patient Systems.
* Desirable: Knowledge of referral processes within primary care.
Qualifications
* Essential: Grade A-C in GCSE Maths & English, or equivalent.
* Essential: Understanding the need to maintain confidentiality and data security.
* Essential: Ability to work in a team and independently as required.
* Essential: Excellent communication skills and empathy with patients; promotes collaborative working.
* Desirable: Care Certificate; NVQ level 3 in Administration or Health Care.
