A leading regional consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Transport Planner to join its growing transport planning team in Exeter. The Role
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will take on a Project Manager-level role, independently leading and delivering a range of transport and multi-disciplinary projects. Responsibilities include:
* Managing client relationships and representing the company in meetings, consultations, and negotiations.
* Overseeing project delivery, budgets, and commercial performance.
* Coordinating inputs from in-house teams to meet agreed deadlines and quality standards.
* Leading the preparation of technical reports and solutions for transport planning projects.
* Providing technical mentoring and guidance to junior colleagues.
* Supporting senior management on complex or strategic projects.
This role will suit someone with the confidence and technical ability to contribute from day one, supported by senior colleagues on larger or more complex commissions.
About You
* Degree (2:1 or above) in Civil Engineering, Geography, or related discipline.
* 5–10 years' experience in development planning, ideally within a consultancy environment, including private sector experience.
* Progress towards, or attainment of, professional qualification (IEng, CEng, or TPP).
* Proven ability to manage and deliver transport planning projects independently.
* Strong understanding of Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, access design, S106 negotiations, and related work.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality reports.
* Proficient in relevant software such as ARCADY, PICADY, LINSIG, GIS, and Excel.
* Knowledge of MfS, DMRB, and the wider planning system (including the NPPF).
* Experience in business development and mentoring junior staff is desirable.
