Job summary and details are provided by Cheltenham Peripheral Primary Care Network (PCN). The PCN is based at five GP practices serving 54,000 patients and includes a multi-disciplinary team with Social Prescribing Link Workers, Care Coordinators, Clinical Pharmacists, Physician Associates, Pharmacy Technicians, and a Mental Health Nurse. This is a new role to support GP clinics and may include both clinical and administrative duties. A paid accredited Health Education England training programme and formal certification are available for successful post holders.
Job responsibilities
* The GPA will support GP(s) to ensure smooth running of clinics by performing routine administrative and clinical tasks to free up the GP’s time for patients.
* Responsibilities may be tailored based on skill/experience and may include duties listed in the job description.
* Assist in developing the role within a busy clinic to improve patient and staff experience; may involve clinical knowledge and efficient administrative skills to create a smoother pathway.
* Experience and a strong desire to work in primary care is essential.

Job description and responsibilities
* Sorting clinical post and prioritising actions for the GP; signposting to other team members (e.g., clinical pharmacist)
* Extracting information from clinical letters for coding and notes
* Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow-ups
* Completing basic forms for GP approval (e.g., insurance, mortgage, benefits forms)
* Explaining treatment procedures to patients
* Coordinating with outside agencies (e.g., arranging on-call advice or admissions while GP continues with consultations)
* Maintaining confidentiality in line with policies
Person specification
Experience
* Essential: Experience of working in general practice/primary care; administrative experience and good organisational skills; knowledge of clinical coding
* Desirable: Experience of System One or other Primary Care Patient System; knowledge of referral processes within primary care
Qualifications
* Essential: GCSE Maths & English (grades A-C) or equivalent; ability to maintain confidentiality and data security; ability to work in a team and independently; excellent communication and empathy; collaborative working; ability to apply confidentiality, tact and diplomacy
* Desirable: Care Certificate; competence in full Health Care Assistant duties; NVQ level 3 in Administration or Health Care
